Large amphipod?

I found this critter this morning thought it was an amphipod as I have a healthy population of them put it appears to have claws similar to spearing praying mantis anything helps thank you

Definitely not an amphipod. Id guess shrimp of some sort. Hard to tell

That is exactly what it is... an amphipod. They have small 'claw' like appendages for scraping and grabbing food items.

Give this a look

Check the link I just posted Crabs. Amphipods do have small, 'claw' like appendages. I'll get some photos of the ones in my tank, they look like the picture above.

Also, the amphipods that I observe in my tank, spend a good deal of time 'sitting' like that. They have their back against the rock with their legs pointing out. Holding on with a couple legs.

You are seeing it's 'underside'. It's back is against the rock with legs sticking out
