I had a salt tank for 5 years. I totally neglected it and anything new I added would die. There is a tang and 1 chromi fish that survived. I have a life’s softies but never had success with SPS.

I recently took down my entire system and scrubbed out the tank, rocks, sump and removed the live sand. I now have a bare bottom tank. I have ATI led module lights with the T5s. I started dosing with 2 part.

This is my last attempt at trying to grow SPS especially Acros. If I fail, I’ll stick to softies only.

Thanks for any help or advice!

I would suggest renting a PAR meter to see where you are at.

Welcome

Start with proven types like PC Rainbow, Red Planet. If you have no LPS, or SPS I would start with a Birdsnest, and a Montiporia, before spending on Acropora.

Congrats on getting the tank back in shape.

Welcome to r2r!

With tank stability so important to acropora. I find picking a “reef day” helps me.

I schedule myself off on Thursdays, and every week perform my weekly tasks on this one day. There are a million ways to run a reef so what this will entail for you maybe very different from what i have to do. But i find if you keep your major tasks done at the exact intervals goes a long way to keep the tank at the closest we can to static.

This also helps with longer term maintenance. First Thursday of the month do this, first thursday of the quarter do that.

Wow I didn’t expect such a warm welcome. Thanks everyone. I also ordered new T5s as I totally didn’t even think about changing these bulbs after 5 years. So far water parameters are good and I have good water flow with 4 new MP40s.
I’m gonna try to buy a few from wwc live sale this weekend.

Good move on replacing the lights? I’m curious what type you ordered?

What do you have? I’ll try some if fairly inexpensive.
I have 2 versions of Stylos, Green poci, Green slimmer, I have a few birdnest corals. that would test out your tank well. All on my website www.hiddentreasurecorals.com. Keep your alk at 7 steady!

If wanting more acro types wwc aqua delight, asd zenith, HT kalhari milli, green bean stag, not acro but branching cyphastrea are hardy ones
