Growing up my family had a 10 gallon tank with some neon tetras and a algae eater. We had other fish from time to time, but they rarely lasted long. I remember that tank fondly. Blue gravel and a lava rock with a tunnel.
Fast forward 15-20 years...
I moved to Colorado about six months ago. I'm not certain what got me thinking about it, but I started looking into fish tanks. I started looking at fresh water and then cichlid. Then I started looking at salt water. Then I realized that you could have a reef tank! That was quite the eye opener.
We bought a house. I was learning what I could about reefing when I had a few minutes. I was trying to figure out where to put a reef tank. I figured that I might be able to talk my wife into a pico tank...if I could get the price down far enough (like $100-300).
I have managed to get permission to start on a slightly larger than pico tank. I have already ordered the skimmer for the 235 gallon tank that is in planning stages.
I do have to have the floor reinforced (so says the structural engineering firm) and run a 20A circuit, but neither should be too terrible. I also have to wait on some quotes on custom tanks.
All said and done, I hope to learn a lot from this hobby, and I hope to be able to be able to share the fun.
