Bought this used live rock when the tank started from a buddies house and I noticed some of these around this area of rock. Whenever the tank feeds they spew slime out to catch the reef roids and when they're disturbed they can kind of be seen. Never really bothered me but im super curious

Rocks original location is unknown but theres tons of sponge, bristle worms, asterinas, etc

Do you have photos under white lights?

I second Vermetid snails. I would suggest taking the rock out or killing them ASAP especially if you are feeding reef roids, they will take over.

White light photos, never seen vermetids this big without the white shell but they've got awesome personality
I've had the smaller vermetids, tubes about the thickness of a toothpick, on Caribbean live rock.

When I used live rock from Fiji, I had much larger vermetids with tubes about the thickness of cooked spaghetti.

Both looked similar (dual antennas on their heads, etc.), and both put out similar mucus threads. The Fiji were just significantly bigger. Their threads were thicker too.

Can't say for certain the larger ones were vermetids for certain. Maybe some other type of similar tube worm/snail. But feeding method was the same.

Only issue with them ive had before is pumps but I vinegar soak everything once a week. Is there any other downside to them apart from them being filter feeders

I didnt like them because of the thousands of strings always out in the tank, also the strings irritate and possibly kill coral. If they get fed which is what the reef roids are doing, the population explodes.

Also the sharp tubes can cut you while working in the tank.

I ignored them for awhile, but then they were everywhere. Your mileage may vary.
