LiveAquaria website down?

While this could be the case abandonment could also mean handing over the inventory to interested parties without market or any compensation. They would have to get permission to do this as the fish are currently listed as assets, which they cannot just give away without permission.

I wouldn't touch them with a 10-mile long pole though.
Fair point, I didn’t consider it in that way. I still agree with not wanting to partake in the liquidation though.

They asked to just let everything die so they didn’t have to deal with it? That’s disgusting. I guess they really became the worst of the hobby.
Thats not what abandonment means in a legal sense. They were trying to convince the court that the animals were a liability and they would continue to lose money taking care of them, and thus would not help the case if they remained under LA care. Basically, they aren't assets that should be valued when assessing what remains after bankruptcy since theyre losing money with them. Abandonment of "property" like this means they are relinquishing it to the court so it becomes the Government's responsibility, allowing the government to step in and allow outside parties to purchase or distribute them out. It's all legal proceedings, but animal cruelty laws would still apply if they were abandoned in the nonlegal use of the word.

I worked in animal rescue for a few years, and we would get a fair amount of animals that were "abandoned" this way from hoarding cases and abuse/neglect cases.

Edit
I didnt see someone else said that exact same thing before me. Sorry!

If you visit the LA’s Facebook.. most recent post’s comments, there is an employee in the comments giving a story on the owner and being a terrible buisness man.. now how true is this comment? I’m not sure but in the mess of all of this nothing surprises me anymore. What do yall think?

Someone either bought them out. Or they are liquidating the inventory.

Run.

My guess is who ever is watching the money told the court that they need time to liquidate the livestock to get the most value out of the sale. They need to satisfy any creditors which is fair. They might get 90 days and then the creditors will have to deal with it. I guess it depends on your risk level if want to buy from them. It will be interesting to watch how it all turns out.

This seems like a good opportunity for someone experienced in the department to collect all the livestock info Liveaquaria has compiled, before it disappears again!

Agreed!!!! Gonna check it out when I get to my desktop. See what I can grab for myself if nothing else. Sure has good info.

I wonder if someone swooped in and bought them or if a judge told them they'd be responsible for the fate of the animals.

According to reefbuilders, part of their bankruptcy was asking the courts to allow for “abandonment” of the animals.

I was about to post this and see it was clarified. Im just glad I refused to order ever again. I would stop any recent payments made, Block them as a merchant via bank and force chargebacks if you paid and never gotten goods BEFORE the chapter case is closed through the courts. Just like Vertex and Reef Keepers, they have up'd and Adam and left customers hanging.

Just

Theres definitely going to be a bunch of animals that end up dying in this mess, It'll be a miracle if LA manages to sell off their remaining inventory. If they dont, it'll be someone else's problem like @HotManwich said and I doubt it'll be someone capable of handling all this livestock.

Oops computer glitched out. Just placed a large order to be a guinea pig for you all. Will update how things go.
Please let us know. I am eyeballing a couple things, but I just can't justify throwing my money away to receive dead fish if I get fish at all.

What’s interesting is they have more “in stock” items then they did before…. I’d be wary lol

Probably stuff they had on order or stuff they had waiting to put into stock that weren't 100% healthy etc
