The fish i bought from them have been good. The last order was for one purple. Ended up getting two ( the system make a mistake) kept both with no charge haha. Got them at about 2-2.5” they are now 3.5-4”! Both healthy and in the same DT.

It’s crazy to see the end of a staple in this hobby for many. They always had good info on their site and was nice to reference. I am also not very surprised they closed, I’ve been watching for a couple things to come back in stock for months and here we are. As a business owner my self, it is tough to make money when you don’t have a product to sell.

On the industry side of things, I think trying to retail fish online must be a nightmare from a profitability standpoint due to how rampant and virulant diseases are.

If you're doing a QT service, you get to charge a premium and make your money through your process

But straight retail ... I don't envy anyone trying to do that business.

automated health check seems unlikely since the message references "all the confusion and inconvenience" caused which isn't really the sort of thing you'd put in a boilerplate "our website has been down for a few hours but we'll be back later today" sort of thing that was set up in advance.

seems more like a ploy to stop the avalanche of chargebacks. which, if true, is a pretty scummy thing to do.

Speaking purely from speculation, that might have been what did them in, knowing what we all do about how Live Aquaria changed after PetCo bought them. I wouldn't be surprised if first PetCo and then their new owner pushed them to ship out fish ASAP without any health checks, which in turn leads to a sharp uptick in DOA claims. People end up with store credits and use them on replacement fish - meaning that now LA is paying for fish, putting in the labor to package said fish, and shipping them out without actually bringing in new revenue.

Depending on how bad their fish health really was, I could easily see them going into the red on a huge percentage of the livestock they shipped out.

Don't forget....this is the same outift that when they shut down Drs. Foster and Smith, they ran a spend $100 get a $50 gift card scam. They cleared out all the inventory, sent out the $50 gift cards, and shut up shop before anyone could use them.
