All of a sudden one of my micromussa's is not looking so good. No changes to tank. The one next to it is fine. Noticed it a bit yesterday or day before and thought something crawled over it or something but again tonight, it seems to be losing the fleshyness. I did a 5 gal water change and some feeding tentacles are out. Earlier none. Usually full of them.

Pics are before. went through a huge explosion of growth recently --3 heads to heads all around. Did a 13% water change on Tuesday, did my normal stirring of the sand bed.
Amm 0
No3 usually 20-40. Probably closer to 80 today when I tested but that is testing end of day after feeding instead of in am before feeding
Nitrates have always been high.
ca: 350--a bit of a drop so upped the doser from 4 ml to 6
mg: 1350
alk: 8.6

Will do another 5 gal water change tomorrow. Might try to do 3 a week. Feeding 4 anthias so feeding has been heavier than normal. Hoping I can cut them down to 3 feeds a day and a bit less. One wasn't doing as well so have been overfeeding. All seem to be doing well so can ease back a bit.

as it is now--earlier before water change

It’s still trying to feed with it’s tentacles extruding out.
Try relocating it (off the sand bed),hermits may be disturbing it at the same time irritating it’s flesh.
Just trying to protect its delicate flesh probably...

Hello! Nothing to worry about, acans do this every so often. We expect them to be open nice and plush every single day, so it seems very odd on a day they look off. Give it another day or two and it should be fine!

thanks @Ryan Rosales and @Sabellafella it is looking better this morning! Do they do better on rocks? Only places I have are either higher up (they like lower light I believe) or along the sides or vertical. Could also move them into the new build but worry that a new pristine tank (well, there are nitrates) would make them unhappy if they like more seasoned water.

Lol great question. Now that i think about it-Alot of the ones I have now are on disks. But i would place them wherever you prefer, just dont expose them to very bright lighting. Also they can tolerate a wide flow variety, as long as its not constantly pushing skin against it's skeleton. Other then that, enjoy!
