First and foremost, writing isn’t one of my strong suits (I’m more of a mathlete) and all I’ve got to say is god it feels good to be a reefer. Here is a little back story, I’ll keep it brief..After selling my 130g reefer xxl during a phase of desperation 2 years ago. I’ve been longing for a tank, not having one made me feel like I was missing something in my life. After finally getting my life back on track I decided to take the plunge again with the encouragement of friends and family. I found a golden opportunity on Craigslist and couldn’t pass it up. It was the perfect size 30 x 30 x 30 totaling 90 gallons. I picked up the tank on Saturday . Over the weekend with the help of my crafty girlfriend, we refinished the stand by sanding it down. I flex sealed the inside of the cabinet, then covered it with a nice coat of plastidip. I then sanded down the exterior and gave it 3 nice coats of rustoleum in navy blue.. so far the equipment I have purchased:
I got hooked up by some fellow reefers on this glorious site. Big shout out to @reefertank for hooking me up with a gently used hydra 52 HD and mount. I was able to procure a Nero 5 for the wavemaker, and a bubble magus curve 3.5 brand new since I won’t be having a heavy bio load in this tank. I ordered a trigger systems ruby 20c literally 5 minutes ago, which I’m fired up about because I think a fuge is essential. I also ordered 40lbs of crushed coral dry sand and 60lbs of Marco rock. I was gifted a vectra m1 by my boss. He will also be helping me hard plumb it this week. Well I feel like I just word vomited, and it may not make very much sense, but I’m ecstatic to be part of a hobby that I care deeply about and to be part of such an awesome community (I know I’ll be heavily relying on y’all for advice and help) I have an idea of what kind of fish I plan on stocking but nothing is definitive yet.

Finally got the tank inside. Hard plumbing has been quite the task as I have so much uncertainty and change my mind every 10 seconds. Luckily I’m in the dry fitting stage but I think I’ve finally settled on a design that will be permanent into my sump. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. I tried adding gate valves and I just don’t have the space.

Equipment update. I just ordered a trigger systems ruby ato to match my sump with a reefbreeders ATO unit. I also got an Apex, Apex wave makers, Neptune dosing unit with containers, inkbird. I’m having issues mounting my hydra52, I got the HMS mount, but the rim on the tank I got off Craigslist is too thick. If anyone has any suggestions, I was thinking about using a coping saw to cut off the 1/4” lip (i would not be touching the frame, only the lip). If anyone has any suggestions I’d greatly appreciate the feed back.

Well, I think I jacked up my cycle and stunted it. I’m having issues with salinity, it keeps raising and then dropping. I’m going to do a water change today and redose one and only.

Cool build!! Welcome back to the hobby - now you're a lifer!
My build is very similar to yours, just a bit smaller (24" cube), you should check it out - our progress will be similar (hopefully). I wouldn't sweat the cycle and salinity. And you can do the water change if you want, but it's unlikely to help anything. Post the graph of your apex salinity, I'm assuming that's what you're talking about. Be interesting to see what it looks like. I can tell you from recent experience that a new tank will have some funky looking graphs for a while until everything settles in.

I’ll post it right now! Thanks for the tip, I’ll just let the tank do it’s thing. I look forward to checking out your build.

Oh and head over here and update your profile so you get a build thread badge - it becomes a link to this thread so people can check out your build!

Well that does look a little funny. Have you recalibrated the probe now that everything is running? And do you have a refractometer? You really should have one just to confirm what Apex says, and then use apex to monitor between occasional checks with the refractometer.
I still stand by the ride it out, I'm sure things are settling in.

Here she is! I’m still messing around with the hydra 52hd. I have to adjust it so that it’s not so front heavy, I need to redistribute the weight to the middle.

Here are some pics of me adding water and some of what’s going on underneath. Always a work in progress.
