So it begins.

I started with a 39 gallon Cadlights that currently has 4 frag racks and corals scattered everywhere. I decided I really want a frag tank to keep backup of the corals from the main tank, and then trade and sell anything else extra.

I picked up an ADA 60-P:

Reef Octopus XP1000SSS:

Two Sicce Syncra Silent pumps (1 2.0 and 1 3.0):

Yes, it's overkill, everything was stupid good deals, so I figured why not.

Day 2

Plumbing

I really wanted all black PVC, with the dark grey Cepex valves, but really couldn't justify it on a tank sitting in my unfinished basement. Quick trip to Lowe's would rectify the situation:

Here's the Tank, rescued from another local reefer, the ADA 60-P, already drilled:

He also had a really nice Sump, all-be-it a big large for an 18 gallon, but who's to complain!

IMG_7577.jpg

He had the Reef Octopus XP1000-SSS, rated upto a 125 gallon tank. I think my fish poop in my 18 gallon ADA stands no chance :) Here's the skimmer compared to the "frag" tank:

Third chamber on the sump has a built in turf scrubber!

I had to pick a spot in the basement. I'm hoping to finish to basement in the next few years, but for now, it'll goto next to the workout tv. My other passion is racing Ducati motorcycles, so excuse the mess :)

Small table to be setup next to the tank for gear:

I wanted a black 3 shelf stand just like this chromed one, but it was out of stock locally, I may swap that out in a bit. But for now, the old stand will have to do. I started drilling for plumbing, based on his existing holes. Side hole for over-flow and bottom hole for feed:

A bit more about some of the donor equipment. Because it came predrilled, I had few options. I was initially going to mount this upstairs near my existing tank. But I then decided a lower maintenance basement tank made more sense. The original setup for the tank was absolutely stunning, and I had a similar half wall in my living room with a vertical column to support the plumbing. I just didn't want to tear into the walls quite yet.

Here's Calvin's original setup from the SCMAS:

I was really fortunate to jump on the equipment when he broke his setup down.

No project can ever be done with one trip to the hardware store:

Or three trips for that matter:

Dry fitting is mostly complete:

Slight change on the lighting plans. I had ordered a Radion Gen 2, but it was damaged in transit. So I picked up an AI Vega for the time being. I think I'm going to pull my Kessil A350W from my other tank and drop it on here, and then add a Kessil 150 SkyBlue to light the sump.

So I got the limo tint from ebay, about $10 shipped.

Cutting was a PITA, but it came out great!

I did the bottom, back wall and side wall with the overflow. I wanted to be able to photograph from the top and two sides:

I cut a 1" hole in the rock, to bury my return:

IMG_7612.jpg

And added black egg-crate with some cut 3/4 black PVC for legs. This becomes my frag rack:
