Sooooo I always look at my tank and I was out for a while and when I come back I seen my alveapora not opening and everything else is nice. I look at it closely and I see a clam I think (even my friend thinks the same 🙂) and what do you guys think? If I put the normal lights on the clam won’t open so 😑 FYI, the video has a loud noise of me closing my drawer, to scare the thing so I could capture it closing 🙂 what do you guys think?

Definitely looks clam like! Wonder if any of the #reefsquad has any insight?

If my knowledge serves right, most of these types of hitch hikers dont last long in our systems so I assume its probably not going to be a long term issue?

I have plenty of clams and mussels that have been in my systems for years. If you have a healthy system they will grow and reproduce. The notion of they will not last, this is an old view. Now with the addition of Phyto, they can live a long healthy life.
Likely a Turkey Wing Clam.
I actually have a Turkey wing clam in one of my systems and this does not appear to be similar. This has a mantle resembling a giant clam with it's wavyness.

Looks like a clam. Can you get a different angle pic under white lights? Like a front (mantle) view?
I tried the white light but it doesn’t open unless I have it set for whole day maybe then it will open lol but I have top view 🙂

Don't think its a turkey wing, they have a pretty unique shape. This one really resembles a tridacna species, like @TangerineSpeedo mentioned. Which is really interesting since this one looks super young which would explain why it has no color yet. Nurture this clam! Not trying to get your hopes up but it could look like this one day!

Still not completely sure on ID @ISpeakForTheSeas can help
Phytoplankton and oysterfeast(oyster eggs) are good nutrional supplements. Feed your fish messy foods like mysis and chopped clams, these will leave small bits in the water column for filter feeders to consume.

I'm trying to think of who's good with clams, and I might be wrong, but possibly:
@exnisstech
@Miami Reef
@OrionN

I apologize to the above R2R members if I'm mistaken 🤪

Maybe not tridacna actually, posted my first response before I saw this, they typically dont grow elongated like that.

Why did I think you keep clams?!?! Sorry about that 🙃
Its all good. I keep clams but I'm not good with them / knowledgeable like Miami and Orion are. I have a group of little ones that seem to be doing well in the IM20. That's probably where you've seen them.

That is definitely what I saw. Thank you for your replies!

Since the question seems to be answered, I suppose the only logical option remaining is showing off our clams, right?

Warning. Photo dump.

Non photosynthetic clams normally do not open very wide or have their mantle hanging out to collect sunlight. OP video is not high enough resolution for ID. I just see a clam that open and close.
Please get high-resolution close-up pictures of the animal. Pictures of its shells and pictures with it fully open. With these pictures, I am sure we can ID if it is a Tridacnid (or Hippopus) or else one of the filter feeder clams.
