My 4x2x2 120 Gal Build

Obligatory fts...

PXL_20220830_165546859.MP.jpg

Beginning to place coral again, all fish are doing well. Added another female lyretail anthias and a non pair of maroon clowns. Male is darker and female is more of a blood red maroon, all are doing well. The male maroon submitted within minutes of introduction and they have been doing fine since. Existing pair of skunk clowns can care less and vise versa with the maroons. Clowns are fine, it's detritus from recent feeding.

your tank is coming along nicely :)

your tank is coming along nicely :)
Thanks! It's been a process and a LOT of recent burning of money, lol. In the end, it's worth it! Going on vacation in a few weeks, will be gone for a few weeks. Working on automation setup so I'm good while we're gone to the Caribbean.

Still on the hunt for wrasses (my importer is out of the country til Oct.), Also trying to decide what else I want! Due to the losses from overstocking the smaller tanks. Can't find a pencil wrasse to save my life!

Pencils are always a nightmare, if I could drop a but load of money on my new 3', I'd be hunting down an atavai in a heartbeak.

The one I had thrived. Had to stuff it in a 20g, with the other wrasses due to the lid and lost it. I will get another one for sure!

The ultimate test is 48 hours in, will be heading to the Caribbean today and won't be back until next Tuesday. Currently seeing friends in Houston since Thursday. Running both tanks off of a apex, with prolly no human interaction for 13-14 days. Usually my dad would stop in around day 7 just to check on livestock and toss in frozen, but he's out 4 wheeling in Colorado until the 20th or so. Thus the tank will truly be on its own.

Fingers crossed!

Not much to update, tank is coming along! Had one loss over my two week trip to central America. One of the lyretail anthias decided to leap.

Otherwise, I'm working on softie acquisition.

2x Yellow Tangs
Purple Tang
Sailfin Tang
Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse
Coris Wrasse (transitioned)
Melanurus Wrasse
Christmas Wrasse
Whipfin Fairy Wrasse
Lyretail Anthias (female)
Dispar Anthias (male)
2x Maroon Clownfish (paired)
2x Skunk Clowns (paired)
Long Nose Hawkfish
Falco Hawkfish

My big problem is that I forgot how good low iron glass looks, I may go broke with it on the new tank. The cube is low iron btw.

I discovered exactly this when I upgraded from a RS max c250 (60 gal) and picked up a used 125 aqueon. I had 2 issues with the new tank. Only 18" from front to back and with twin overflows, it really affected rockwork. The RS tank was much wider. And the glass. I actually grew to hate the 125 and kicked myself for not being patient and finding what I had wanted. Will never go a non iron glass tank again

Your thread to this point is great. What a lot of work to tear down the tank!

It has been a LOT of heartburn and money spent, but I love the hobby. Thus it's all been worth it. The low iron issue, if I would of replaced the tank, instead of the warranty claim, I would of spent the coin for the low iron glass. Being that I ordered the tank during the bowels of COVID, I was happy to even have it delivered at all! Next larger one will be low iron for sure.

Great build thread. Tank looking nice. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the 50g
I'm still trying to decide. I did order 20 pounds of rock for it so I can rescape. The tank is online and running, but I'm not doing anything with it. Few hermits, nassarius snails and aiptasia, that's it.

It will come to you. Do you QT? Could set it up as an observation tank. I did but changed my mind as I find it too hard to have to stress fish out by catching and moving

I'm a mess when it comes to QT. Been reefing since the late 90's on my own and grew up with tanks (salt & fresh) as a kid of the early 1970's. So QT was never a forethought. I've tried it and realized the number of losses/success IME was a wash. Meaning, I'm a plop and pray guy (outside of one fish source).

The 50g tank was supposed to be a observational 'qt' tank after the 120g restart, but I'm having a I dunno what to do with it moment!

Current 50g sad face moment.

Looks about like my 45 gal! A bit cloudy as I used my diy snow, and took off the refug. light. Can't get AI app
to let me get in and change the blues.

I'm the same as far as QT. Except for a velvet bout--my fault for adding way too many fish at once to a too young system, I've lost more fish in QT I think. So they go into the display and I feed good and use garlic etc. Management rather than qt.

If not for the clown which cannot go into the big tank, I'd take this one down. But now I have an anemone so will bring it back to par

I had a bout of flukes as you saw in this thread majorly wipe out a ton of stock and that fish came from a 'qt' source (not forum related). So it just confirmed my thoughts of forget it when it comes to qt. I just feed well and run a large 57w UV, 24/7 through my return plumbing.

That was a bummer! I have a 36w uv in my big tank. Prob. need bigger but it is what it is

If you get the opportunity go bigger! 57w was the right number to keep the tangs ich free in my case.
will keep that in mind. Right now running more for algae but can slow pump down when I add new fish. Not sure what the pump should be at!
