Today I got my DSLR out to take pictures of my SPS frags which are in various stages of growth. Camera is Canon DSLR 7D. Lens used was Macro 100mm (Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens).

Editing is minimum using Adobe Lightroom to get the temperature right to what I see with my eyes.

I posted it in my build thread but think it might be more appropriate in this forum.

This is from a guy struggling with my new camera / lens combo (Sony A7 II with a Sigma 105 macro). I've been out of it for 10+ years but it's starting to come back to me. I also dislike giving critique but here goes.
I think you nailed the colors, at least on my screen. I have a few of the same corals and I think your colors are true to life. Good job not over saturating like so many people do these days. Are you turning off flow and are you using a tripod? Reason I ask is because a lot of the images look just a tad bit soft (slightly out of focus). That lens / body combo has the ability to deliver razor sharp images. Not that yours are bad I just think some could be sharper.

It's a slippery slope from decent to indecent. Nice pics.

Thanks and I agree. First time trying macro lens and am still relying on the camera to figure out some of the stuff. Need to figure out some of the camera settings.

good point on flow too. I did not turn it off and that would definitely make a difference. I did use a tripod but the main culprit was probably shutter speed. Camera was deciding it and sometimes it would leave the shutter open for too long.
I have been reading the stickies here and need to read up my camera manual too. Hopefully I will learn a few new tricks.

thanks for the critique/feedback.

Nice shots you did nail the colors, agreed on some looking a bit soft as mentioned maybe because of shooting through glass at ab angle rather than perpendicular at glass. I'd also crop a bit tighter to get more isolation of your subject so it shows a bit more.
Stabilising camera more or a faster shutter speed or both will also help.
