my poor Bella is at the vets she started having seizures last Sept & spent 4 days at the vets & came so close to dying that the vet gave the whole quality of life talk. She was covered in sores from the constant rubbing from the seizures, couldn't stand and couldn't eat or drink by herself. We decided to let her come home & see it being here would help.
And it did within 1 hour of being home she could stand with some help & from there everything got better each day till after about 2 weeks it was almost like it never happened except 2x a day when I had to give her phenobarbital. Till Monday my hubby got up & found her on the couch which he knew was weird cause miss lazybones doesn't get outta the bed till 11 ! he realized she was about to have a seizure & rushed her to the vet just as he put her on the exam table she seized. Altho this sounds like it has nothing to do with reefing my addiction saved the day! I had been on the sly saving my pennies for a strawberry shortcake frag & a few others, so I had a good downpayment on this visit (they make you feel soooo poor if you have to make payments) I just got a update on Bella & they think she will have to stay the night maybe come home tomorrow. I hope so because there is a huge hole in my life without her she is worth a billion frags to me. if you have a little furry bff give them a kiss & a hug & please send a little prayer for my little love

thanks so much I'm going to see her tonight she is a little 14lb boston terrier & is the sweetest little girl with just the right amount of "fire" I love her so much

well just got home after seeing her she hasn't had any seizures today but has some congestion in her lungs which the vet said is getting better that started yesterday. she didn't even act like I was in the room really broke my heart might get to come home tomorrow heres hoping & praying

I'm very sorry to hear about your dog. I know exactly how you feel. My Yellow Lab, Chase, suffers from epilepsy and has at least 3 seizures per week. He's on pheno, potassium bromide and zonisamide for them. Luckily his are mild and only last about 1-2 minutes tops. He's been having them for almost 3 years now. It doesn't really effect him that much and he's fine within a matter of minutes after the seizure. I wish you the best and maybe look into some of the other meds I mentioned above as the pheno alone didn't help him at all.

thanks Dave yeah that is what the vet said today but I couldn't remember the names of the other drugs he was talking about did Chase have to be on a combo of drugs from the first or were they added later? they thought last year she had a brain tumor seems that is common in Bostons but since it has been so long they think she has epilepsy how old was Chase when he first started having seizures?

You're welcome. I hope I can help out in some way. Chase was just over a year old when he first started to have them. I took him to the vet and they ruled out a brain tumor. I eventually had to take him to Cornell Vet School to see a neurologist. That's when I got the correct diagnosis and the other meds. My regular vet just put him on pheno for the first year. Then the other meds we added after that. He was having 3-5 seizures per day until I added the other meds. Now's its controlled much better and the severity is super low. He's actually really aware of what's going on when he has one and can even respond to my voice. So they're not that bad with all the meds. It's quite expensive each month, but it's worth it in my eyes.

I just took a quick pick of the meds for you. The Potassium Bromide is a liquid med. I find it easier to put the liquid in a piece of bread and then feed it to him. That way he gets every drop. I also stick the pills in the bread and make a little medication sandwich. It seems to work out pretty well. I have to give him the 120mg of Pheno 2x per day, 200mg of zonisamide 2x per day and then 5cc's of potassium bromide every evening.

Chase must be a big boy cause Bella is on 1/2 mg 2x day on the pheno a 2 month supply is only 9$ really wouldn't matter the cost tho whatever she needs is what she will get.
thanks so much for taking the pictures & talking to me I feel a better now about the long haul. let me see a pic of that big boy if you can

This is him at 2yrs old in october 2009 pheasant season. His first bird!

He was having seizures by time these pics were tanken and he's still a good hunter. His nose suffered sligtly, but other than that he's very good.

So sorry to hear. First let me say your vet is wrong for making you feel like crap for making payments. My fiance and I both work at vet hospitals. We completely understand the love you feel for your little girl. We have four of our own. 3 bassets and an english mastiff. Our oldest basset is working toward her 11th birthday and our second oldest has a lot of health problems so we understand having that little extra money laying around
Find out if your vet excepts CareCredit. It is a credit card specifically for medical. Even a lot of human doctors except it. That way you will always have an emergency stash. We really hope all goes well for Bella. Keep us updated.

So sorry to hear, here's hoping for the best for all. it's so easy to get attached to our friends that they become our kids.

Sorry to hear about this....

Yes look into the CareCredit for sure......I used this for my Wife's Dentist when she needed about $3000worth of work done. Zero interest for 18 months or something like that. I had about $1000 left over on the CareCredit and I was able to use it for my Dog Duke. It really helps to have it

I am so sorry for you and your loss. I love this poem I came across when I had to put one of my dogs down
I'M STILL HERE

Friend, please don’t mourn for me
I’m still here, though you don’t see.
I’m right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I’m always near.
I’m everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I’ll never wander out of your sight-
I’m the brightest star on a summer’s night.
I’ll never be beyond your reach-
I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.

I’m the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you’ll see that the face in the moon shine is mine.

When you start thinking there’s no one to love you,
you can talk to through the Lord up above you.
I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face.
Just look for me friend, I’m every place!
