Hi I’m attempting to find the perfect coding for maintaining my pH at 8.10. How can I run the doser for only 15 seconds when it is triggered to ON?
Here’s my current:
Fallback OFF
If FeedB 032 Then OFF
If pH < 8.10 Then ON
If pH > 8.11 Then OFF
If Output ReturnUVATO = OFF Then OFF

Lets start with some basic questions....

What are you dosing to maintain PH?

Anything you can dose to maintain PH is also going to effect your alkalinity.

I could show you how to code this, but you don't want to. Never try to control pH through dosing, you will crash your tank eventually. Either through alk spikes, probe drift, etc, it is not worth doing. If you still want to attempt this after reading this, let me know and I will show you how to do so with that caveat that "I told you so" when your tank crashes.

I’m dosing sodium hydroxide. I’m not really worrying about alkalinity as of now. I’ve had acros that have “woken up” since pegging my pH.

I appreciate that. I’m willing to take that risk.

Caveat for others reading this post I DO NOT ADVISE THIS. At bare minimum use the Min Time value to limit dosing to 15 seconds ever 15-60 minutes so you reduce the chances of cooking your tank.

But the coding to perform this function of turning something on for X seconds when triggered is to clone the conditions into a VO and add a Defer to the VO.

Fallback OFF
If FeedB 032 Then OFF
If pH < 8.10 Then ON
If pH > 8.11 Then OFF
If Output ReturnUVATO = OFF Then OFF
If Output MaxDose = ON Then OFF
Min Time 060:00 Then OFF

MaxDose
Fallback OFF
If FeedB 032 Then OFF
If pH < 8.10 Then ON
If pH > 8.11 Then OFF
If Output ReturnUVATO = OFF Then OFF
Defer 000:15 Then ON

You do realize sodium hydroxide is ALKALINITY?

Have you checked your ALK number?

You can't "Peg your PH" with sodium hydroxide without effecting your ALK.

Yes that’s what I’m using for my alkalinity. Currently sitting at ~13 dkh at a pH of 8.10 low and 8.15 daytime high and acros look fine.
If I peg my pH to 8.15 the alk raises to around 14 dkh and the acros still look fine. It has a consistent daily .5 alk swing which I think doesn’t kill my acros.
I’ve noticed since pegging my nighttime pH that my polyps are out at night. I tried night time feeding, looked for bugs but pH did the trick.

Your skating a very fine razors edge at 14DKH.

Why your corals are not dead at 14DKH is beyond me(12 is like the most upper limit) They have probably adapted to it over time.

Typical recommendations are anywhere between 7 and 10.

It's your tank, run it anyway you want, but just be cautious with a alkalinity that high.

You should never use an alkalinity supplement(beyond the upper limit of ALK) to effect your PH. PH is mostly driven by the CO2 in the tank. Drive that out(something sodium hydroxide does very well, but at the cost of adding alkalinity), and your PH rises.

If your aware of this, then disregard my post. Just wanted you to be aware of what your doing if you already were not.

I think sodium carbonate or soda ash” is ALKALINITY
similar to sodium bicarbonate which doesn’t have the hydrogen molecule

I also would mention that sodium hydroxide is a strong base a compared to sodium carbonate which is a salt.

Side note: calcium hydroxide is Kalkwasser

Sodium hydroxide is LYE. Sodium bicarb(or unbaked baking soda) is also ALK. Only difference is the PH effect each has. One slightly lowers PH, while the other gives a slight increase.

It's the NEW ALK part in randy's new DIY 2 part. You get the same PH boost from it as you do KALK, without the calcium part you get with KALK.
