Need help with a filter

I have a 20 gallon tank with the aquaneon filter, I want to upgrade and am looking for a cheap upgrade anyone have any suggestions?
My tank isnt a reef tank it doesnt have any corals.

Cheap upgrade, sounds like an Oxymoron. What are you trying to accomplish with this upgrade?
