is chewing through certain fish, over the past month he has lost 2 damsels 3 clowns 1 spotted cardinal. This test is after the second clown died

Biocube parameters Temperature: 78.6. Salinity: 1.26, Ammonia, NH4: 0 Nitrate, NO3: 0 Nitrite, NO2: 0, pH: 8.2 for date: April 5, 2014

Brought a sample the same day to HPC where they had identical results with different kits. He got another clown and the cardinal, this morning both are dead. Here is the test from tonight

Aquarium Biocube parameters are:Temperature: 77.7. Salinity: 1.026. Ammonia NH4: 0. Nitrate, NO3: 0 Nitrite, NO2: 0 pH: 8.3 for date: April 15, 2014

I am doing 15% water changes weekly with reef crystals and RO water with a TDS of 2, about 30 pounds of live rock, a clean up crew feeding 1 frozen cube nightly.

There is a 2 month old scooter blenny and goby that are both fat and happy.

He has not heard any clicking like a mantis is in the tank. Why so you think he keeps losing certain fish?

Are all these fish coming from the same lfs? They may have a illness of some sort. For fish to die that quick it has to be ammonia in the tank or fish are extremely stressed. That's why most people quarantine before adding to tank.

I don't know illness or predator. But if it is illness why would 2 fish be otherwise unaffected.

My guess is a bacterial infection, but cant be certain without pics, it can look like it is eating through fish and it spreads by physical contact, which is why some fish are affected but not others.

Also, you should have some NO3 as that is part of a healthy nitrifying bacterial population, because even if some is converted to Nitrogen gas and escapes the system it usually doesnt keep up with NO3 production.
