Been in the tank less than a month now.
A little crocea I picked up at my lfs.

Not my first clam, but my last attempt was a maxima clam that my starry blenny seemed to have beef with. The blenny kept knocking it off the rock work before it could take hold. Pretty sure it died of stress.

The new little guy grabbed hold right away and the start blenny doesn’t seem to think of death for this particular clam.

Day one: he was wide open for the first day.
Day two: he didn’t really open up that much.
Over the next few days he opened up a bit more.

As far as I can tell now it’s back to fully open, and I can see the little syphons inside.

What do you guys think?

Looks good to me. My little ones open a bit more but i don't know if that really mean anything.
Do you know what par they are getting? Its my understanding crocea are one if the more light demanding clams. Mine are getting 350 par. They start to retract their mantle when lights start to dim down.

How big are yours? They look quite a bit bigger than mine. Mine is about an inch, maybe a bit more.

That is a beautiful clam! I have a small, maybe 1.5-2" maxima clam in my tank, that's doing pretty well. I usually dose amino acids (AquaForest) and I think that my clam really enjoys them. I don't dose phyto because 1) it's expensive and 2) I think my clam can do fine without it.

While I don't think it's necessary to dose anything, I've found success in it and dosing aminos or phytos won't do any harm it can only benefit the clam.

I’ve seen pics of crocea clams that have burrowed into the rock work to the point where only the mantle is visible. Anyone here ever have a clam long enough to burrow like this?

Cultured croceas will almost never be able to do this in our tanks, as they start when they're just wee little babies. They will bore some material away, but not as much as you think. Although, it would be cool to have this happen in our tanks.

At this size you should see a nice white growth rim on the upper margins of the shell. Take a daylight pic with some filters so we can see its true colors. Heavy blue makes clams look dull. 😀
