Good morning!

I have a Melanurus and Ornate that came in yesterday that look really great. The ornate was trying like crazy to get out of the bag and definitely didn't like shipping. It is pretty small.

I put them in my QT tank with plenty of places to hide and a good sized container of sand. When I checked on them this morning neither had been in the sand. The melanurus looked nice and calm but the ornate was "wound up" and breathing a little heavy from it. Also, the melanurus ate like crazy last night but ornate did not....LRS reef frenzy

Now I know it can take time to acclimate but not using the sand at night bothered me a bit. If this continues through tonight, should I just dump the sand in a corner without the container?

Thanks!

It's ok to use some sand in the tank bottom. Wash the sand and use a large diameter tube 2-3" that's long enough to reach the bottom to get the new wet sand to the bottom without freaking out the fish. Less than a inch is good. I've done it where I covered half the tank bottom and it worked fine. But I've also covered the entire bottom. The fish like it much better. And it won't interfere with meds or copper.

Had the wife pop the light on and it went back to moving around. She dumped the sand and it's been checking it out like "hey what's this stuff"

They could be on a different timezonevandvwill take time to acclimate but typically they all go in the sand on introduction from stress....

Be sure to give an update on how the fish do, please.

Just curious what your QT plan for these fish are? As somewhere in the future I intend to QT a melanurus and a redlines which is similar.

I received these as conditioned from a vendor that used to frequent R2R so I'm giving them a few days to get acclimated and eating good then I'll use copper power for 30 days. Knock on wood, but the Melanurus looks really good and ate instantly

That sounds like a good plan. I would treat with prazi pro also.
