Oh the humidity!

So the evaporated water from my tank is turning my room into a sauna. What can be done about this? I already get the obvious of open doors and windows but what beyond that? I cant afford to heat/cool any other room in the basement the living room. So doors and windows are typically shut. Ive thought about a dehumidifier my tanks all have lids (DT and sump) i figure i loose about one and a half gallons of water via evaporation from my tanks each day.

This or a humidity controlled fan that exists out the house. They make those, just don't know how expensive they are. Also need to cut through a wall to install one.

I have 2 open top tanks in my office(300g total), I place a fan at the door blowing out and use 2 damprid contraptions. I'm able to keep the humidity around 50 or lower. I'm in Vegas though so it actually makes it nice. I installed a humidity controlled bathroom exhaust fan over my tank. It usually only runs when my lights are at the brightest. Or when we're gone and we bump up the thermostat. It was less than the cost of a dehumidifier. Check it out in my build thread

Keep in mind as you extract the humidity out of the air, your tank will exap more. If you do decide to go the dehumidifier route you will need to go larger than normal, and at the same time, up your ATO reserve capacity.

And don't configure your RODI system to respond to the slightest water level drop in your reservoir. That would be "short-cycling" and is best to be avoided.

Do you know the current humidity levels in your room? If not I would get some humidity monitors. I got a couple through amazon as humidity monitors are important to get a baseline that will help to determine the level of mitigation required. I use a combination of keeping humidity contained in a space that has a slight negative pressure, tops on sumps, exhaust fan ventilation, and a dehumidifier. High humidity can create some serious problems in a home so its important to know what your humidity levels are at throughout the day. A dehumidifier is a great option bust sometimes it will not be enough on its own.

You say you have lids on the tank and sump, but that is still a lot of evap. Anything else you can do to seal up a bit better, without causing low O2 problems in the tank?

My new 72g evaps around a quart a day. Glass lids, uncovered sump in a stand.

I have glass lids on my 125. My sump is wide open. I go through about 5 gallon of top off water a week. If your tank and sump are both covered up then you shouldn’t have much humidity issue. Maybe something else is going on?
