Just upgraded my return pump to this Platinum DC Blue 800...anyone else using this brand pump?

I have always used 2 smaller return pumps but decided to jump up to one larger DC pump with a split line. One week in and so far am thrilled with it.

It is dead silent and has more variability than I'll likely ever use. I got to see these pumps in use on some of the large tanks at my lfs and was impressed at the power in such a compact footprint.

Was just curious if anyone else is using these.

Anyone running one of these pumps? Looking to use it as an external pump.

Wondering if it comes with hose barbs for both intake and out. Thanks for any help.

Just an update on my pump.

Geos reef seems to be willing to replace the pump thankfully. The main distributor of these pumps gave me a completely different response. I’d be very cautious if ordering this pump from anybody other than Geosreef.com.

This other email is too long so I will just copy and paste. This is from SevenPorts.com who seems to be the main distributor of this pump in the US:

Hi Jared,

Thank you for contacting us.

This pump is sold to Geo’s Reef for OEM (original equipment manufacturing under their own brand)

They test and certify the pumps for their particular use that is not the use the pumps were intended for.

Because of that being out of our control all warranties are processed and guaranteed by Geo’s Reef.

We are not the manufacture of the pump only a distributor and can only warranty them when purchased directly from us.

We do this only with authorization from the manufacture, ZK pumps upon a warranty claim.

We have contacted the manufacturer on behalf of Geo’s Reef and will update Geo’s Reef as soon as we have the manufacturer’s response.

Best Regards,

Look what I found. I paid $225 for my pump and it’s only an 800. What that being said I’d avoid this pump.

I've been running mine less than a year on a GEO Calcium reactor and it's starting to make funny noises.
Disassemble the pump and inspect for debris from the reactor

Any air bubble making its way back from the reactor?

Sometimes the CO2 bubble will make its way to the pump . The pump will sound like it’s chopping up the bubble into smaller ones.

Not sure I get your point...........you found it for less than you paid.......... what's the issue with that?

I see your pump broke.........where that broke seems odd. It's got a 5 year warranty so what's the problem?
Geo is replacing it. This may be a one time issue, not chronic.

I bought one and like it so far...........I've had no issues and paid 145. I'm using it as a return pump. I saw one on someones tank I visited and he was using the 800 as a closed loop and it was working fine.

I guess I don't see a trend with this pump as one to avoid at this point.

If you like it. Run it.

I bought it as a $225 “upgrade” and it’s a budget pump. My friend bought it about the same time I did and his is rattling pretty loud.

I just checked GEO’s Reef for his current pricing and he pulled it off his website from what I can see. He was using silicone and Teflon to seal the threads which tells me they were also having issues.

I’ve never had a pump outlet or inlet twist off in all the years I’ve been reefing and I can tell you…I’m not getting any stronger. :)

So yeah, I’ll never buy one again, but if it’s working for you and you like it I’d go with it.

yep. took it apart. Cleaned and soaked in citric acid. it's "working", but still making an odd noise. Sad that it's been 10 months and I'm already shopping for a replacement.
Yep, it’s a budget pump. The good thing is the old Sicce pumps are fairly cheap and reliable.
