Plumbers purty in a reef sump? Disaster?

I have an IceCap 36XL sump. It has 2x 7" sock ports in the drain compartment that water flows over. I am using a Klir7 in one and a cover for the other so all the water goes through the Klir7.

This cover does not seal entirely and the water that gets through sounds like someone is peeing into a bucket in my living room. It is driving me crazy.

I have tried direct preasure and relocating the fins on the cover. I am just short of gluing this down.

Thought about silicone but it is all acrylic parts.

A suggestion was made to try plumbers putty. Is this acceptable in a reef tank? I have no idea what isbin plumbers putty or what it will leach out into my system.

Any better ideas to end this noise and save my sanity?

I've used this silicone wrap before to make sealing gaskets. No adhesive used. Core Prodigy grip tape on Amazon.

You can use a silicone that works with plastics. Home Depot sells it, but not found with their other caulks in the paint department. You have to go to where they sell acrylic sheet goods (Window department). A tube looks like this:

How about a big o-ring or 2? Would seal water/sound better than just laying the cap on a gasket, yet still be easily removable..

Thank you all. I am an idiot. The trickle noise was from the emergency drain.

I do not know what changed but I was getting just about ready to glue the thing in when I just happened to look in the back behind the skimmer. There it was. 1/8 inch trickle of water falling 4 inches.

A quick adjustment of the gate valve and she is silent again.
