Hi everyone, sorry for another UV plumbing question. I read and watched as many videos as I could and still not sure I won’t mess this up ‍: \.

I have a new 525xl aquarium (~100 gallons with 40 gallon sump) and want to split my return pump between the tank and then to the UV sterilizer sitting behind the tank.
My question is can I then have the UV sterilizer output just return to the display from the back and over the tank? Is there any concerns with siphoning if I do this?? I have room behind my tank I can utilize.
Thanks!

Yes. Just keep in mind that if you turn your return pump off you will typically also want to turn your UV off at the same time. A better option would be to route all the flow through the UV and then to the return outlet.

You need to also consider the flow through the UV and your goal for using it. Potential fish parasite control or algae/dino? If the output is plumbed over the top of the tank and is below the water line it will siphon back to the sump once the return pump is off. Check valve would help but I have had them fail so wouldn't consider it a 100% foolproof solution.

Thanks everyone! I’ll look into plumbing the UV output back to the return instead of display.

Hello,
Is the UV outlet back into the retrun chamber ?

Thanks
Intake is near the socks where the water enters the skimmer chamber. Outlet is on the opposite side of the that chamber right by the weir where it goes into the refugium section.

Thanks

Intake being from the overflow chamber, does it not take some amount of detritus also into the UV?
Any particular reason for having such a water route via UV?

Nope....how would you adjust flow.....just plumb off manifold and have both uv and main pump on the same switch..gets around your scenario of forgetting to turn off uv..but your main return should be the same flow always, preferably max flow.

Thanks

Sump is just small and cramped. That tank is a 60g cube with Fijicube 24 sump. I oversized the UV on that tank because of the limited water contact I have to work with. Detritus is not really an issue, the intake is after the socks.

I like a sweet out of stand uv on "display" you can show off the tech and its easier to maintenance and change bulbs when its outside the stand...jmo

Mine sits behind the sump inside the stand. The stand I built has doors on 3 sides so there's not really any way to mount it outside.

Yes, you can do it this way as well.

Thank you. I bought the 60g used and the stand was terrible. I built that stand to fit the tank. The tank sits down inside the top edge so it hides the plastic bottom trim on the tank. Has a top ledge inside for the wiring and DJ strip as well.

The UV is not completely flat... the outlet side is a bit higher than the inlet side to allow air bubbles to escape.
