Possible hitchhiker?

hello all
I apologize for not having a pic but I picked up some red leg hermits today and one of the extra shells had about 8-10, 1" long hairs coming out of it.
Anyone every see this? I have it out of the DT now.
Is it algae or some kind of animal?

Maybe look up "hydroids on shell".

It looks more singular and it's coming out of the cracks in the shell.
