I ordered a yellow Ophiarachna brittle star off live aquaria because I “can’t read”. I feel awful and so stupid. I didn’t take time to look at the genus/species thinking they were the same as the black or red. I didn’t realize what I had done until I was reading my packing slip and saw the green deaths cousin listed. No to mention he’s already pretty big. He’s currently in my sump for fear of him taking a swipe at my fish or inverts tonight.

Any suggestions other than get rid of him? Is life in a sump a bad life for him if I take the time to target feed? My sumps around 35 gallons. Hoping the lfs may swap me or take credit for him if you guys think sump life isn’t his best life. I couldnt sleep if he was to live in my display. I’ve read too much.....

Oh yeah, they are fish eaters! Life in the sump/Refugio makes is fine as long as you have some rock work for it to feel at home and target it feed it some pieces of clam or shrimp. Otherwise, I would see if they would take it back and get one that is better suited for your tank.

Ya sump life isnt the worst. Depends on how big it is and if you have a chamber with no pumps. Worst case scenario you bring it to the LFS.

He’s in the fuge with some chaeto for a roof, lots of rubble and some live rock to lay amongst. No pumps unless he makes a break for my first chamber with my skimmer. Otherwise he’s safe. Can’t make it to the outflow pump chamber unless he goes out of the water. Not the roomiest but better than being outside the tank....

I’ll see if the LFS is interested, if not, he’s home. Cool guy, great color, but a bad attitude/behavior will get you kicked out. I still feel sick about being careless. I even spent time researching these guys
