Programming Apex

Is it best to wait until I have the tank up and running to set up my APEX unit? I am at the point to add water, however I have a panel and I was going to mount my modules. My plan was to program it before I mounted them on the panel before I added the water. But looks like I need to get everything going first then program the unit as I will need to calibrate the probes them submerge them right away. Thoughts??????

Yes, then you will have a grasp of what you would like turn off, and also to calibrate the probes if need be.

You could start a spread sheet with what you would like to program and then when the system is up you can switch in on the spread sheet and then program. I use the spread sheet as a road map go back too when I get into trouble:)

I had my tank already running before I added my Apex.
Yet I didn't hook it up to the tank until a few weeks latter after reading the Comprehensive User Manual and had the Apex hooked up in the other room and I programmed and figured out all my programming before I installed it on my tank so I knew how to program the outlets and made sure everything would work.

Before running live, I actually played around with the programming by connecting a lamp to the outlets and tested my timing and functionality that way.

The most difficult part is to find fund to pay for the Apex. After that, if you have any questions, post on R2R and within minutes someone will help you out......

You can setup everything and if you do decide to calibrate the probes just make sure you keep them in water afterward. It will give you some time to get to know the system and organize everything.

My tank is in the middle of establishing the Nitrogen cycle. The first thing I payed attention to was getting water in the tank. Once that was done I started in on the Apex. I'm taking my time and doing it slowly bit by bit.

It's a great time to experiment. Nothing is going to die if the temperature goes to 82. No matter what cycle and level I have the lights on no coral is going to bleach. There is no livestock to kill if I don't have the water level sensors up yet and run out of top off water.

By the time the tank is ready for live stuff the Apex should be completely setup.
