Water changes will do it tooyou both are right. Skimmers don't remove phosphate on their own but the uneaten food remnants and organic that can breakdown into phosphate. if you have a PO4 issue right now then Mr Mojo's suggestion is right on with the GFO suggestions. i run a couple bags of chemipure elite in my weir section before the return chamber since they have a bit of GFO in them and it helps when i feed my reef jerky daily.
to run chemipure do you simply just drop the bag in your sump and that helps?you both are right. Yes it works in a high flow area. I drop it in a 300 micron sock to keep po4 below .1.to run chemipure do you simply just drop the bag in your sump and that helps?
would you recommend using that over GFO. it does seem to be cheaperYes it works in a high flow area. I drop it in a 300 micron sock to keep po4 below .1.
I use gfo. Certain chemi pure's have gfo so either will work.would you recommend using that over GFO. it does seem to be cheaper
I run chemi pure passive in bags. No reactor. Doesn't strip po4 as fast which works for me. Change 2 bags every 4 weeks.to run chemipure do you simply just drop the bag in your sump and that helps?
If it's only slightly elevated i would use it since it removes organics as well. If you have high levels of po4 then rowa and wc'swould you recommend using that over GFO. it does seem to be cheaper
Yes he doesn't like protein skimmers, but guess what he has decades of experience and knowledge, also looks at his tanks, filled to the brim with corals, soft corals, SPS whatever, even the big anemones are sucking up stuff. I would argue that there is a beginning time in an aquarium life cycle where it benefits from no skimmer or light skimming, then once bacteria is settled and you fill with fish and food the skimmer helps and then when it's filled you can probably shut it down. There are some who do not run them. I recall Julian Sprung's display does not use one.

Good move. I just ordered a ln Elite 200 SSS Based upon that same logic. It arrives tomorrow. Love getting new hardware! Buy once, cry once.I'll be going with an RO Regal 200 SSS. Great quality. Expensive. Definitely. But I don't want to buy another one down the road.
I love my simplicity 120! I’ve had it about a year and it’s been rock solid! I had the Reef Octopus Essence s-130 and the Simplicity is so much better! The controllable DC pump makes such a difference. In that same tank I'm running the simplicity 110 or whatever the little one is. It's really consistent and fits well in that sump. While maybe not top choice, if you found a deal I'd not hesitate
I run a big reef octo too. It's pretty dang good.
Ya got that right brother. When I brought the proposal of getting back into saltwater, my wife's only three requirements were 1.) Buy the best equipment you can get your hands on, 2.) Do it all up front and 3.) Make sure what I create isn't a money pit (like the last time when I had to replace everything but the stand). LOL, when I came back with a 14K bill, she paused, thought about it, and restated requirement 3. Told her of the routine costs. And she OK'd it. I STILL can't believe she OK'd it. But she told me that I've worked hard all my life, worked OT x13 years of the 34 as an RPh, and I deserve it. How lucky am I!!!!Good move. I second the reef octopus INT. I bought one several days ago and it’s already pulling out lots of nasties. Well built, easy to use.
