Thanks! You're one of the names I remember from RC! I hope I'll figure things out. How are you doing? That 30 day growth is looking good!
I'm trying to stay away from things with an app or web based. I put up an Orphek Icon, plugged it into a timer. Couldn't figure out how to turn it on! LOL! Oh, I've been told only old people use, LOL! LOL!

I'm trying to KISS. Only planning on less than 10 SPS.. LOL,. we'll see how that goes.

Thanks. I’m doing well. I actually love the app equipment today. Now I’m venturing into a hydros controller. A little overwhelming. 10 sps lol. Good luck stopping at 10. Some of the pieces today are insane. I’ll give you my top ten for the moment in time lol

Pearlberry
Pink lemonade
Oregon tort
Red planet
Red wing mili
Asd milli
Walt Disney
Home wrecker
Purple monster
Granulosa of some type.

Been growing this piece that was originally from watchguy since 2020 from a mini colony. Glad I’ve been able to get it to grow and help it proliferate in the hobby

Back in action with a Tyree PM. Hoping it settles in nicely.

Day 1

Toast! Win some, lose some. Had a little salinity mishap last month and this coral don’t like to give second chances. I did a witch hazel dip, I’d be surprised if anything lives. I’ll try again in a few months after I can locate a frag.

My new frag of the original I got today and my old one from back in the day in my 300. Been out of the hobby 10 years and after returning I hit up some old friends and acquired a piece. Fingers crossed it does well.

I give up on this coral. Prices went up on anything available anymore. I will always appreciate this coral but I will never spend 500+ on a little frag of it.
I get it $. I would spend the $ if I could find one, lol. I have not had any luck finding a real frag it has been a challenge.

I’ve been growing this coral for 10 years and aquired my first colony in Tallahassee Fl from Conch Reef. Truly an amazing coral and one of a kind. I sold the main colony 6 months ago and have a small piece left and now letting it grow for a couple more years. Every time I want a new system I sell the purple monster. This coral loves light and feeding for me. Chris (conch reef) was a master at growing this coral under 250w halides and used to sell a lot of corals to TSA in the beginning years. Chris also sold ORA back some of there signature corals they lost years ago including Oregon tort and pearlberry. Those two corals you get today from ORA were saved by Chris.

I’ve had a PM in all of my tanks. I lost most of my pics before 2010, but here is a couple after. Like most sps the color and even polyps colors can change based on lighting and nutrient. You can even see that I turned base polyps green at some point with my nitrates creeping up high which did go back to white when I cleaned things up.I always gave it a ton of light, but it seemed to do better with higher nutrients with deeper color and way way faster growth. I got a 3/4” from Copps and grew it to a baseball size in 18 months in my last tank. Then I got to watch it die overnight lol. Sps suck sometimes lol

I’m gaining confidence in my new system so it’s almost time to place one in and start the process all over again :)

My guess would be Acropora horrida. Still a very nice coral, not a species you see all that much.
Yeah that’s not a purple monster

Halide. That’s where this one came from. Not trying to tick it off lol.
That huge colony that’s local to me has been under leds for several years and doing good… anyone else will say that led is what made that coral go extinct haha!

I’d love to know his exact spectrum light, etc. I’m intrigued. His colony looked amazing. a lot of OG reefers lost that Coral in recent years.I used to grow it in a nano tanks under t5 hand dosing the system lol. our ability to keep water chemistry is far as superior than in the past, the common denominator for failure seems to be LED. I dunno, hope that’s not the case but….

Its under radions that’s all I know.. G5 pros currently but I don’t know the schedule.. I do know he’s a pharmacist with tons of knowledge like Randy on chemistry so there’s that lol.. he’s the one who told me to dose h202 15 years ago to get rid of Dino’s when I started that thread and changed the way people reefed way back then, when everyone said peroxide would crash a tank and you can’t put it in salt water blah blah blah! It’s widely used today for fish disease and other stuff, some have success with Dino’s and other problems still to this day.

I would be squatting in front of his house until he sold me a frag of his PM lol.
