Are there big differences between generations of the radions?

I am thinking of grabbing (2) XR15 Pros Gen 4 from a local reefer

but I am also considering just buying 2 new ones. (Gen 6)

thoughts? Advice?

Gen 4 changed the strength and power of them, it's when they introduced new ballasts

Gen 5s revolutionized spread and coverage

Gen 6 has a bit more spread and coverage, but reduced strength

If you go with gen 4 make sure they are mobius compatible or you will have to buy a reeflink to control them, or do it on the light which I have no idea how to do. Not sure of the manufacture date that will tell that but the RF chip will be black rather than green. But I really dislike the mobius app so am sticking with my gen 4s and reeflink for now. It's an old guy thing, I don't do change well.

Some people still say gen 4 is the best generation :) If the price is right and they are well cared for then I see no issue.

G5 increased spread and G6 moved back towards G4s spectrum.

Mitch, didn't you ask the Radion guys this question at RAP NY?

I like the g5 fixtures better than the g4s. Spread is great, they grow coral like a beast and they're very sturdy. Aside from the manufacturing issues in the beginning where frames came cracked, they're pretty sturdy and well to work with.

But mobius... mobius is possibly the single worst app that I've used in reefkeeping. I have 6 lights. If I'm lucky it'll connect and change to any 3 at a time. Want guests over? Check out my half lit tank! Want to update? 4 of the 6 modules updated, 2 failed. It's horrible and connectivity is a huge jump back from reeflink. Because of mobius alone, I prefer the gen 4s over the gen 5s.
