I am planning on upgrading my tank to a D-D Pro Reef 1200 (120x60x45cm). It will likely be a mixed reef and I’m planning on getting 2 radion xr15 blues. They will probably be run at 100% all channels so it is the ab+ schedule. What intensity percentage should I put them at to get 250-300 par 6 inches deep?

Since PAR depends on a lot of things. Might suggest you rent/buy a PAR meter. There is no one answer. The clarity of your water, etc - all play a role. Additionally every light has a difference. Most LFS can rent/lend you one,

PS - running them on 'blues' - can give an artificially low PAR value - i.e. - the PAR reads 200 - but is really somewhat higher. I would try to keep your coral at the same PAR as the store from which you are buying them

Thanks for the reply, I will try to find a par meter I can rent or borrow. Do you know a intensity range it should fall between?

Really think you should perhaps get the XR 30's I assume you mean the G5's. ? if you only have 2. The good thing is if you get the G30's - you can always decrease them. If you get the other - you cant increase them beyond 100 %. I would discuss with the place from which you are buying

Yes, they would be the gen 5. I don’t really want to spend the money on 2 xr30s. According to the manufacturer they are good for 60x60cm area.

Some here would say - the manufacturer overestimates their effectiveness. I went with the 30's - and have a similar sized tank. Having said that - some here also say '2 GR30's is too small' (I disagree) - You would not be displeased (IMHO) with the GR 30's.

Ok thanks a lot for the help

Here is a par snapshot of 2 xr15’s over a 4ft tank from a brstv investigates video. You can see the par values they have at 60% intensity with how they have the channel set points.
