I've got a nice healthy little rainbow monto frag, which would look just spectacular encrusting a rock outcropping high up (2 inches below the surface), in the central aspect of my tank. That would place it directly under the lighting, which is 36 CREE-XP.

Is that too much light for a Monti? I really don't want to burn up the little guy

My rainbows love higher light and flow. But I can not speak from experience with leds. I have one of mine 8" below the surface under 400w radiums and its color is amazing.

I have grown it under led at 30" below and at 15" below. Par of 200-600 was just fine. Seems to handle either or pretty well and still have good growth and color.

With higher light under LEDs, mine tends to look more like a pokerstar. Very few red polyps along the edge except in shadowed areas

Cool. In that case, I suppose I'll slowly move it up to the chosen spot and see what happens
