Identification?

Anyone have a guess what this is on the rock? It’s in a hard place to see.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I had them on my TBS rock and they’ve been there since October. Granted, it’s a dark sump with no flow, but they have survived whatever they are. No growth though.

Thanks. Looking back at my first pictures of that rock, they either were not there or were very small. We’ll see what happens. :)

From my TBS rock that usually ends up a red type of algae. Usually like this…
IMG_7720.png

Similar to yours 4-5 translucent sprouts appear and few weeks later this ^ usually 1-2 actually grow out.

The yellow leather has been captive raised for well over a decade now as well. Not to add to the pressure, but just sayin’ :)
Back in the 90’s I tried a yellow leather. It eventually died. What’s the secret?

Day 75 Update

All is well, aside from the one missing mandarin. Decided to take a video this morning. I just fed them some TDO chromoboost pellets, which is why they look somewhat frantic as they search. They normally move around more slowly.

Refugium Update

The refugium continues to look good. Still some of whatever the pest is, but none in display, and none clogging the water surface. I’ll keep dosing nutrients and silicate, and keep the uv on for now.

The yellow tang has learned to eat green algae that I bring up from the lower light refugium and rubber band to a rock. So it should keep algae down in the display, but as you can see in the above video, there’s none present except what I bring up.

I’ve also started dosing 0.06 ppm iodide once a week, without measuring it. Don’t know if it does anything useful, but in trying to keep algae growing well in the refugium, there’s no reason to not do so.

Randy you're a professional! Great video. 😉

It's going to be really fun to compete that video to 1, 2, 5, 15 months etc.
Thanks for the kind exaggeration. Yes, I agree videos over time will be interesting. In the future I can post links together to show changes. :)

I see more of these elsewhere on the rock. We’ll see what they turn into. Macroalgae would be nice, IMO. :)

Lighting

I’ve been slowly ramping up the light, but it is still low. Right now, it is at 15% on all channels, which probably puts the par at the yellow leather at about 50 and the elegance at about 25.

Wow you did get that tank really quiet. I could hear the floor creaking as you walked but nothing from the tank!
The stalks of stuff growing up could be some sort of sponge but I see what looks like the start of branches, could be a bleached macro. It'll be interesting to see what it turns into.

lol, yes, I also heard the floor creaks as I watched the video. lol

I can hear the powerhead when the room is quiet, but I’m happy with the sound level. :)

Thanks. I’m very happy with how it is coming along. :)
Still no sign of missing mandarin? I assume you looked through rocks with a flashlight by now.
Is the other one eating the pellets? Need to fatten it up..
Maybe consider replacing the missing fish before there is a big size mismatch...(?)

I expect it is eating pods. I added a lot. I don’t know if it is eating pellets.

Still no sign of the second one. I’m not hopeful for it.

They both look pretty thin, might be worth the effort to see him eat some pellets...
Have/do you added phyto, to feed/ grow the pod population?

Yes, I’ve been dosing phyto, in part for the 1.5 gallons of Dinkins pods added (along with any from the rock). I’m pretty confident it is finding pods since it frequently bites at the sand and rock, and mostly stays in one area.
