Hi guys/gals
I have a new to me cube:- exclusive aquariums. I assume an LFS brand.
The return at the point it drops into the sump is ridiculously noisy. Part of the problem is it uses baffle boards to slow the water into the sump.

the other issue is the return/sump design means there is a really long drop to the water surface.

obviously I need to slow the water up or create a smoother flow. Anyone had any good ideas how to achieve?

More often than not your overflow plumbing should be below the surface of the water in the sump. So worst-case scenario you get a few bubbles and some turbulence.

Most systems have multiple overflow pipes (including emergency) with a gate valve on the main to regulate flow.
