Just kicking it out but have you flipped it over and checked for MEN especially if there is a gap between the montie and the plug. Check with magnifying glass .

MEN wouldn’t kill it that fast and you would see marks from them munching on it. Looks more like it got stung by something.

Could be lighting...I had a piece turning white on me so I moved it up in my tank and it colored up nicely in a few days

There was a ultra platygra frag right beside it?
Give it lots of space and leave it alone. I think it has a decent chance of coming back
