Hello everybody, I am new to r2r and back in the hobby after some 20 years away. Going to post a thread in meet and greet.
Just starting up a new red sea reefer xl525, 139gal tank.

My plan with the tank is a mix between lps, fish and a cleaning crew as a start.
Here, trying some handicraft with the back to nature slimline background.

I think you may regret the back wall, is it inside the tank? If so will get covered in algae etc, you could have peeled the black off the back wall and glued it on, so the glass was still cleanable from inside.

following love a new build.

Thanks for posting my first reply!

The back wall is inside the tank, and my plan is to stuck corals to the most of it. I am building a higher reef wall with live rocks that will be supported by the back wall instead of lying on the glass. Also I hope my big family of invertebrates will keep the back wall free from most algaes.

Here is a pic of a tank with the same type of back wall as mine.

I took the cup of it and now after two days it´s still skimming like mad!
Tried to turn the pipe to slow it down but it didn´t.
I know it can skim a lot when starting in new water, but the skimmer is not new...

Is this normal u think? #reefsquad

Yup its normal part of breaking in process.

Mine is bubble magus so it didn't really overflow that fast. But it took a week before it stop overflowing and another week or so before I can finally set it up correctly

Thanks that calmed me down a bit!
Can I still start cykling with bacteria etc when the skimmer is on turbo mode?

Yes. The skimmer is not skimming at this time anyway. So you are not taking anything out.
And the bacterias are mostly in your display tank. (Rocks and sands)

Of course! Planning on using a liquid “mature kit” to speed the process a little, but as you say the skimmer is not skimming so should be fine.

This might be because the salt it not fully dissolved. I'm not certain, it's just a guess based on the factors you listed.

Just so you know, you could extend your tubing so it reaches your tank. I have over 100 ft of tubing on my RO/DI unit and it works fine.

Really need to do that!
I did move the RO unit closer to the tank when I filled it though. See the pic.

But need to get the tubing to reach the ATO container.
