Awesome tank. I looked at it when I downsized but in reality I was sick of sumps understands. Bad spine and knees. Little jealous lol

so far the fish are all feeding well and doing well.

However, some of the corals aren't doing too hot. the lps are more retracted and show some recession. the polyps on the pocillopora are all retracted. Tests as below:

Salinity: 1.026
Temp: 78F
Alk: 8.8 dKH
Ca: 400-430
Mg: 1560
PO4: 0
NO3: 0

I'm wondering if its because the nutrients are too low. I've increased feeding and hopefully the increase in bioload will eventually catch up.

Did something a little different this time around. Did a “skip cycle” with turbofritz. Have a royal gramma he’s still hiding in his cave but comes out to eat and is doing well.

Added the algaebarn bacteria plus ecopods to further seed the tank.

So far nitrates and phosphates are low. Was 2ppm and now undetectable. Phos around 0.7. Skimmer is pulling out nice brown skim mate…wondering if the skimmer is a little too effective or the pns pro bio is just that effective.

Tried to get pics of the RG, but he hides so well can’t get a fast enough picture.

Have some livestock ordered from quarantine vendors coming in later on this month!

Here’s pics of set up (still looks messy despite my best efforts)

Can you elaborate on the cycle process used ? “Skip cycle”?

Yup all dry.

Added one fish with turbofritz, monitored ammonia and nitrates closely. Had nitrates by day 3 and never had ammonia. Slowly added bioload and went from there.
Lol okay I thought there was a new cycling method , in other words man fish in cycle ? Pretty much what I did 2 TR clowns + Dr Tim’s for my cycling. I wanted to do Turbofritz but unfortunately it wasn’t in stock anywhere but I’ve used Dr Tim’s before and can vouch for it.

Yup! I actually have a nano that I did traditional cycling to compare. It seems like fish in cycle with bottle bac + seeding with the ecopack has resulted in a more stable system thus far. My struggle is actually now that my nutrients are down to undetectable.

Many people here suggest SPS till once a tank is somewhat established 6+ months, do you think you corals are struggling because of that ? I was going to wait at least 2 months for some soft coral and maybe keep it there for 6 months until I introduce some LPS. I don’t plan on ever introducing SPS but maybe that’s just a thought if your corals are struggling but who knows hopefully your corals bounce back

honestly? Yes. I got them because I wanted to introduce more microbiome that comes with the frags. I didn’t get anything super expensive or challenging to start. I think for people who’s had a lot more expertise it’s not an issue at all early on, but expert I am not.

Didn’t forget about updating. Unfortunately a huge setback. Have a velvet / brooklynella outbreak essentially wipe out the tank. In the process of trying to feed to get the fish to survive through this, GHA took over.

Will need to pull the lone survivor out and go fallow for a while and start over. But..this gives me time to fight gha!

Aw, man...I hate to hear that, but I'm glad there was a survivor!
