And where is the water magically disappearing to if it goes down the drain instead of me dumping it on some grass?

The doomsday story is old. Reefers as a whole aren’t “wasting” enough water to even move the needle.

I fill up a couple rain barrels, 55g, with spent rodi and use it to mix fertilizer for my lemon, plum tree and others.
I also run a long line to planted areas in the backyard after the drums are filled.
It saves a few pennys on my water bill, lol.

They did a demonstration about what would happen if you only used a pressure relief valve in a water heater after one blew the side of a brick building out. They forgot basic physics of pressure changing boiling points steam expands I think 900 timed the volume of water

— they completely removed the tanked heater’s pressure relief valve, replacing it with a plug…

— they built a mock up of a section of a two-story home, with the water heater on ground floor, then filled it/fired it up…

The darn thing went through the 2x10 floor joists, through the 2x6 ceiling, then flew several hundred feet in the air!

I added a second to membrane to filter the waste water. It saves some, but not much. I myself would not use the waste water for anything living. The elevated chemical levels would be kinda frightening.

There shouldn't be chemicals in it though. Minerals, yes.

I use my waste water for doing wash. I collect in a 55 gallon drum that contains a MAG18 pump, and then have to trick my top loading washing machine to do the original fill of water. I also use it for the rinse cycle. That sliver of white in the lower left corner of this photo is the washing machine.

I also installed a sillcock (outside water faucet) so that I could pump the water outside to water the plants/lawn. But I found that the MAG18 wasn't strong enough to pump up that high....water just trickled out. You can see the hose going from the drum up to the sillcock.

There shouldn't be chemicals in it though. Minerals, yes.

Fluoride is only partially removed by the carbon. The ro membrane filters very large portion out. The carbon is the work horse ov the system, but is not perfect.

What does everyone else do with the waste water from their reverse osmosis?
I collect mine. I use it for a few things like washing the car, garden, bathing the dogs, mop water, and etc. Sometimes I use it to rinse the dishes. The water charge has gone up much here I hate to waste it. I have three I use. One for drinking water on the kitchen second for the bathroom sink for brushing my teeth
And the another one for the fish tank. My water from the city is awful. So I use three.

Route the concentrate tube to your washing machine and set a timer.
