Hello everyone

Would someone help me out with the micron setup
On the filters on my stage 4 Rodi unit.

I just replaced everything and now my water is just dripping drop by drop. Never had an issue before the filter change and was getting about 70 psi now like 40 ish.

Here is what I had and what I did

I kept the sediment at 1 micron which is what I had, re filled the carbon

100 GPD membrane was a swap out as well no Change and re packed in new Di resin

But changes the carbon block from 5 to 1 micron. Obviously this should be the issue as this is the only change but if I bought new carbon filters at 5 micron would this be right?

So 1 micron sediment
5 micron carbon? Is this ok microns?

Thank you for the help.

I run 1 micron sed and .5 micron carbon. No issue with pressure. You have a line somewhere in the wrong spot likely in the to membrane area. Is your drain line connected to your DI resin?

Also when you say a line in the wrong spot, i didn’t change a thing outside of unscrewing the canisters and putting in new filters. Unless this can cause issues if I did something wrong?

Couple of things you could check.
1. Did you open the cold water line intake valve all the way to open after changing out the filters? if it's not fully opened that can drop pressure.
2. Do you have a pressure tank or pump attached to that system? That can make a difference with giving you an instant boost of pressure from a tank for about ~3 gallons before slowing down, or a rodi pump will give you a lesser, albeit constant boost to your flow when you turn on your RODI faucet.

Thank for your reply. Yes the valve is open all the way, I’ve had the unit for about two plus years making water weekly without any issues. The issue started as soon as I turned the water on after I changed out the filters.

I always open the valve 5 sec before and after making water to flush the lines. Also I don’t have a booster but never needed one.

I’m stumped!!!

At this point that may be your next cheapest troubleshooting option, swap out for the 5 micron once you get it in the mail and see if your flow returns to normal. Do you have a TDS meter to see what your TDS is after the DI stage? If the 5 micron carbon isn't causing detectable TDS levels after your DI stage, then it should be fine. The only difference is that you will probably burn through that DI resin faster if the carbon isn't filtering out smaller micron particles.

Ok sound like the best plan at this point. My TDS is at 0 coming out as per the meter and shows 11 going in. At this point I can’t understand the drop but I will
Order one and it will be here tomorrow so hopefully 🤞 this will return to normal.
Thank you for your help much appreciated

Possible you plugged up the I assume in line 1/4 inch check valve . Should be a compression fitting . I ordered a new one off Amazon before removing mine in case of a screw up. You can soak it in vinegar for 10 minutes . Or just change it . If you did not change anything, and Micron values are the same it may be the problem or maybe an air lock . A stretch but who knows

Possibly indeed, I have a new micron filter that will be here tomorrow, will give it a go and if nothing I’m going to try replacing the fittings or even soaking in the vinegar. I guess just work through it. Appreciate the insight I will also give it a try. Thanks again.

Also possible that when you shut the water off to change the cartridges something finally broke loose ( piece of gasket ) and plugged a line off or even shifted. I would disconnect lines one at a time starting at the beginning , making sure you have good flow all the way .

That’s great advice and noted… thanks again for that… I probably wouldn’t have even thought of that, makes sense.

So how did You make out ?
Well not very good. I took the whole thing apart, switched out for 5 micron filters and checked every fitting, hose and seals. Nothing but I suspect it’s the pressure… coincidence? Maybe, but never had an issue until I changed out the filters alone. But now after re hooking it back in and turning on the water my pressure gauge reads at around 45psi. So I’m gonna guess and say this is my problem? Looking for a booster now. Why now, not to sure. lol.

It would be uncommon for a water supply to drop 25psi randomly.
