Oh i see. I have several friends who are from south africa. And have family in Australia to. We understand most of the south african language, although some words are completely different. Small world right ;).

Indeed, were you born in Belgium? Language contains some words of other countries populating South Africa at the time. So we have some Portuguese, English, French, German, African languages and Polynesian languages mixed in. But the base as I understand is actually closer to Flemish than Dutch.

I believe you are correct. The native language of Belgium is Dutch and French, i live in the flemish region. The flemish language is like some sort of sublanguage. It's really close to dutch but we use different kinds of sayings and sometimes even different words. If i listen to the south african language, it resembles more to flemish then to dutch. So i understand most things when Jack Parrow is singing :D.

Has anyone seen the new cobalt c-ray 200 led light? What do you guys and girls think about putting it over the 170? I know overkill but i could dail it down... in europe it is going to be sold as the aqua medic angelled 200. Quite expensive though...

So 9 years have passed... I guess it's time to update . The reefer 170 never made the cut, but i'm still reefing!
I settled for a Waterbox 35.2, running a Tunze 9004dc skimmer, 2 x jecod DMP20's, a Royal Exclusiv Red dragon X and my favorite piece of reef gear Keloray AL150 reef light.
I know i know my foxface is getting too big in i'm going to rehome it. I had some nasty bubble algae but foxy ate it all! Tank has been running for 5 years now. I'm going to try and keep posting in my build thread, looking to upgrade my tank to a larger sumped system like a reefer 300xl or a Neptunian Cube M pro 90. Anyhow here's my tank! Please be kind .

I'm currently trying to decide on a light for my 100 × 50 × 40 cm reef tank, and the AL150 is one of the fixtures I'm considering. The other option I'm looking at is the Ecotech Radion XR30 G6 Blue.

Would you mind sharing your experience with the AL150? Are you happy with it in terms of coral growth, color, fluorescence, and overall appearance? If you were choosing today, would you still go with the AL150 or would you consider the XR30 instead?

I'd really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

Thanks for the compliment!

Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with the AL150. The biggest things for me are the spread, color mixing, and completely silent operation. The spread across the tank is excellent, and the color blending is so good that you don't get that disco effect you sometimes see with other fixtures.

The app could definitely use some refinement, but it works well and has been reliable for me, so it's never really been an issue.

As for coral growth, color, and fluorescence, I've been extremely happy. Growth has been excellent, colors are vibrant, and the corals really pop under the light.

If I were making the choice again today, I'd pick the AL150 without hesitation. The XR30 G6 is obviously a great light too, but based on my experience with the AL150, I would choose it again and again.

One more question if you don't mind. How do you find the overall look under heavy blue lighting? Some fixtures can create a slightly hazy or washed-out appearance when running mostly blues and UVs. Have you noticed anything like that with the AL150, or does the tank still look crisp and clear?

Yes, I'm really happy with the lights. Best of all, the AL150s are IP65-rated.

With the heatwave hitting Belgium, I decided not to wait until my tank started creeping into uncomfortable temperatures.

Today I installed a JBL cooling fan on my reef tank to help keep things stable over the next few hot days. So far it's doing a decent job, but I'll be keeping a close eye on temperature swings and evaporation.

For those of you dealing with summer heat:

• What temperature do you start taking action at?
• Are you running cooling fans, opening windows at night, or using a chiller?
• How much extra evaporation do you typically see with fans?

I'd love to hear what strategies have worked best for you. This is my first time relying on a cooling fan during a serious heatwave, so any tips are welcome.

I think it's finally time...
Foxy has officially reached the point where he's making my tank look a little too small.
I'll be honest, I knew from the start that he's to big for this tank. At the time, I was battling a serious bubble algae problem, and Foxy turned out to be exactly the help I needed.
Watching him grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of this reef journey, but it's also a reminder that our fish deserve the space they need to thrive.

Upgrade or sell/rehome Foxy?

I thought I'd share my experience with ATI Absolute Ocean, as I've been using it for my regular water changes instead of mixing traditional reef salt.

My tank is on the smaller side, and I change 17 litres every other week. So far, it's been working really well. The tank has stayed healthy and the corals are thriving.


What I like most is the consistency. It's reassuring to know you're using water that's produced under controlled conditions with the same parameters every time. There's minimal mixing and no waiting for the salt to dissolve.


I know the price can put some people off, but on a nano(ish) system I actually think it's quite reasonable. One box contains 2 × 10.2-litre jugs, which is enough for 10 of my water changes. Since I change water every other week, one box lasts me about 20 weeks.


Would I use it on a large reef system? Yes, simply because I've found it to be a really convenient option and one that gives me confidence in the quality of the water I'm adding.
