Sick yellow tang

I was planning on treating the tang by himself in QT.
I don’t have corals yet, and only two snails.

Should I treat main tank as well and turn off skimmer for a few hours?

I was just reading back a few posts, this won't be an effective treatment, the only way to eliminate ich from your dt is to remove all of the fish and leave it fallow for 76 days

+1 ^ After FWD you will definitely want to QT and treat with meds. If it is flukes then you will need Prazipro or API General Cure and then go fallow (fishes) for 4 weeks in DT.

Things to remember for FWD are:

- RODI water that is same temperature and PH as your aquarium
- Air stone for water circulation
- amquel or prime to help reduce ammonia build up
- allow for 5-7 minutes in the FWD depending on the health of your fish.

If its ICH you will need to QT fish in copper for 4 weeks and your DT tank will need to run fallow (fishes) for minimum of 76 days.

Things to keep in mind with treating copper are:

- Slowly increase copper over 2-3 days to therapeutic levels
- Don't add PRIME or ammonia reducing agents
- Keep lights off to reduce stress
- Keep ammonia levels in check (ice ammonia badge)

Last time My fish had ich I wasn’t able to remove all the fish from the DT, I just removed the coral beauty. I treated him with the treatment I showed above and after 30 days of qt I placed him back in the DT. One other fish also got sick. I tried to qt him with copper and he didn’t make it.

I don’t think I will be able to take all the fish out of the system. I have 6 fish and only one qt. Plus I’m really bad at tank husbandry (reasons as to why I decided to use Triton method since the start of the tank) I’m sure I would stress the fish out through this 76 day process. I’m afraid that this method won’t work for me.

If none of the other fish show symptoms can I leave them in the DT, I know I won’t get rid of ich this way but if they don’t stress out and avoid an outbreak would they be okay?

Update:
I place the tang in a fwd following the proper steps. Didn’t have a dark bucket so spotting anything that came off the fish was nearly impossible. I don’t think anything did fall off after the fwd though, seem he looks same.

After the dip I took him straight to the qt and put in the medications. Bellow are some pics of him in the fwd and in the qt.

Many reefers choose ich management vs. eradication. I personally do not recommend it. It will be beneficial for you to read this thread below. One topic noted is proper husbandry as a key component to a successful ich management situation.

Update:

I posted a picture of the bottle. It’s called herbtana, I’m dosing 1ml per 5 gallons. It helped me before so I’m giving it a try again.

I was just looking back at this post and your pics, it can be very hard to tell on a yellow tang and even harder to tell by the pics but does it look like he has dust all over his body? I just want to make sure you're not dealing with something more serious than ich. Can we get some opinions from @ngoodermuth @HotRocks @4FordFamily and @Big G?

I agree I see what appears to be many small spots.

To the op, Herbtana will not clear up velvet, or really much of anything. Typically, products like this at best, improve the slime coat of the fish slowing parasite progression. What generally happens IF they "work", is that the fish build a natural resistance on their own and fight it off. This is most common with minor ich infestations.

Unfortunately, velvet is every bit as common and much more deadly. Very few fish can fight off velvet in a glass cage. I hope this helps :)

I’m really not sure what the fish has. His skin did look a bit fuzzy (not smooth like the other fish). Yet his behavior is still the same. He still eating pellets and other foods. he’s swimming around like crazy (like always/ he’s been the most active fish in the tank) and not hiding between the rocks.
I thought that fish start showing these signs when they are sick, yet the tang has not done any of these.
