Do you really think I need the gc9 rather than the one with the psk 1000 pump for my set up?

I think the one with the 1000 pump would be just fine. I think it will be one of there best sellers.

What do you think of a skimz monster protein skimmers. For a 290gallon tank.
I would wait until the pumps have had a chance to prove themselves. I have had 3 different models and they all performed well.

mojo,I have a ReeFlo Orca 250 with the needle wheel Dart pump, what would be a good replacement pump that would consume much less power and still perform as well,or what mods could I do to it to make it more power friendly and still perform well ?

mojo could better answer your question but IMO,if it's in really good shape and the seller is honest about the pumps age,it's probable not a bad deal, they are about $550 new...I've never use an ASM skimmer but they seem to work great from the threads and reviews I've read about them...I've always been skiddish of ebay, but that's just me

Are Bubble King skimmers worth the price. Is there a good knock-off option out there.

I would pass on this all day. Much better out there for that price with a warranty and much better build quality.

The Age old question. Not much different than is a Cadillac better than a chevy...?

BK are built really well, Skim well, are quiet and are what you would expect...
A cheaper knockoff is just that. There are other skimmers that will work well and are built well. allusing different material

im getting a 45 cube and i want to have a larger skimmer for it with a foot print of 9x9 max. i was thinking of a swc160. i went to bio reef and they said a reef octopus would be a better skimmer all round. now i had a reef octo once and i wasnt happy with it. but i have been hearing good things about reef octo and swc. what do you think would be best a swc 160 or a reef octo that is for a 110? cant remember the reef octo they said would be better

I have a 70 gallon cube and I was debating between the swc and reef octopus, I ended up getting the Super Reef Octopus PS-1000int. I just got the skimmer today actually and couldn't be happier with it. The reason I went with the SRO PS-1000 is because it has the bubble blaster pump on it which is supposed to be a better pump than the one on the SWC. The footprint is 10.5x7.5 so if you can stretch an extra 1.5 inches on your dimensions there I would highly recommend it. I have had it setup for about 5-6 hours now and here's a pic of how its doing.

the octo you would want is the SuperReefOcto (SRO) 1000 model. Not the 110. Big difference. The swc 160 would be ok but the seaside aquatics cs1 would be better as the pump is nicer.

Mojo,

I am planning a 120g reef tank with a 20g sump in Dubai, UAE (Middle east). It will have a couple of softies, 4 3" tangs, 4 damsels, 2 wrasse, 4 cleaner shrimp, a clam and a couple of LPS and 1 SPS coral .I have considered the options for a skimmer for this setup and am having a hard time deciding which one to go with - JNS Sk2 or the ATB 840 v2.

Which one would you go for and why?

Is there another skimmer you would recommend over these two?

My needs - something that will perform consistently, is built well and is worth it but not overpriced - basically my last/only skimmer for 5 years. I dont mind spending money as long as it is worth it.
