Would a Reef Octopus xp1000sss be too big of a skimmer for a system that consists of a 40 breeder and 15 tall tied into a 25 gallon eshops sump? I am considering upgrading the 15 tall to a 30 long, with the 15 tall as a seahorse tank, with a custom 20 gallon sump under the 40 and the eshops under the 30 in the near future. Both tanks are currently mixed reefs, with the 40 being sps and clam dominant, and the 15 lps dominant. This might be a little confusing, so clarification can be provided upon request.

Nope. I have a 1000 int(which I would recommend over the sss model if you have room) on my 40 br with 30gal sump.

What is the difference between the two? I will be building the 20 gallon sump custom to perfectly fit the skimmer, but for now, I will make the eshops work for it's temporary housing.

Here is the one I'm talking about... Aquarium Supplies, Reef Aquarium Supplies, Aquarium Products, Saltwater Aquarium, Fish Tank Supplies, Freshwater Aquarium, Marine Aquarium And here is the one you mentioned.... Aquarium Supplies, Reef Aquarium Supplies, Aquarium Products, Saltwater Aquarium, Fish Tank Supplies, Freshwater Aquarium, Marine Aquarium You can save a few bucks($40 or so) by going with the int model:) Supposedly its easier to control as well but you may have to modify the outflow pipe and make sure its sitting in 5.5 to 6 inches of water. Nice skimmers either way from what I hear.

Ahh, okay, I get you. I haven't bought it yet, but I do have limited space to work with; which is why I am considering the SSS model. I will look into the footprint dimensions and see if it will work with what I have available. I am also planning on building an egg-crate stand for the skimmer to sit on to give it the optimal water height. Thanks for the input, lets keep the posts coming!
