Hey guys, I’ve got these snails in my tank. I’m having a really hard time trying to get an ID on them as I believe they are a hitchhiker.

Also, I have a few of these egg sacks popping up here and there they could be related to these snails.

Any help much appreciated, sorry about the bad quality pics of the eggs. thank you 🇦🇺

Just to make sure, because I currently see this happening in my tank:

Are you sure it's not just a local cluster of spirorbid worms? Sometimes they (for some reason) create these concentrated clusters instead of spreading evenly on the back wall.

Oh I’ve never heard of that,

I was under the assumption they cared for they own eggs in their calcified tubes until they were larvae.

The clusters I'm referring to would be "grown" spirorbid worms. I was not talking about their eggs, maybe I should have clarified. That's my bad, sorry.

I meant that actually grown spirorbid worms are sometimes concentrated in some spots instead of evenly distributed. This can look like some form of eggs because they are so small.

Oh Okay, nah these are definitely eggs. They’re in case in a jelly sack.

It also doesn’t help with the bad quality photo, sorry

Ah okay the jelly sack is a very good indicator.

To be fair, even with high resolution images or microscope images it would be very difficult to identify. I have no experience with mollusk eggs and assume they look very similar up close.

I personally would go through every snail species I have added to my tank on purpose and see if they are broadcast spawners or not and then try to find images online. The thing is, there might be snails you are not aware of in your tank (e.g. Stomatella snails are common hitchhikers that only come out at night), and those could also be responsible for the eggs as well.

Stomatella are by the way broadcast spawners so that's unfortunately also not it 😅
