Hey all. I have a couple Solana nanos and i have tried about 100 ways to NICLEY incorporate LEDs to the tank. On the sides, under the lip, off the back, hanging on the globe, everything looked out of place.
Well last night I found the answer in a very unlikely place. I was at a car show which I do quite often. Well LEDs are used to light all kinds of stuff in the auto world. Well this years EVERYONE had these strip lights of tiny LEDs running all overt the engine compartments. Once i saw them I started asking around where to get them because I had an unintended plan for them.
I headed down to the local parts store and there they are. All sorts of color and lengths, VERY bendable and the perfect actinic color. I bought one of the kits that came with two short strands for only 16 bucks. I came home removed the chrome ring from the light and got to work. The strips have very strong glue on the back so they just stick right on. They are also made for an engine compartment so they hold up to the heat of the light perfectly. All I had to do was work it around the edge of the light. Lays nice and flat and blends in perfectly.
Since they are made for a auto application they run on 12 V but that’s no big deal. I just slapped on a plug that has a converter built in. most people have tons hanging around the house from old electronics. Just read the back and output and make sure its matches. If you don’t have one radio shack has them for 8 bucks.
Anyways. The color is perfect. the coverage is very complete and the looks is GREAT. Just thought i would pass this along for anyone else looking for a nice clean solution. This is it. sorry the pictures stink. took them with my phone real quick on the way out the door this morning.
