I just received an order of rock from Gulf live rock. There is some kind of finger-shaped sponge I am guessing that is attached to one of the rocks. It is reddish orange even though the picture kind of looks pink. Is it a sponge or???

My tank has had some cured Rock in it for a few weeks and a few snails and crabs but nothing else and if this is a sponge and from what I understand they are difficult to keep should I remove it so it foamy contaminate my tank or what?

Its a red finger sponge. One of the more hardy sponges. You can keep it in there while you cycle and see if it survives. If it starts to turn white. remove it at the base. Thanks Dan
