Hi guys,

as it turned out I can use the unfinished basement as the fish room because the tank will be directly overhead. So I’m no longer constrained to the dimension of the stand for sump. I’m planning a 150-200 gallon tank

My question is what sump materials would be reef safe? I’ve seen a few Rubbermaid stock tanks, black ones. I was hoping to find shallow square grey ones but I could find it.
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated ☺️

Thanks,

How big a sump do you want? There is some advantage to being able to see into the sump - as compared to the opaqueness. It might also be slightly more difficult to fit in baffles, etc in the stock tank since most are not at 'right angles'. I might buy a 100 gallon aquarium? which makes it easy to silicone partitions, etc inside (perhaps even a used one - if you're sure its not leaking lol.

To answer the specific question - If its 'food grade' - I believe you can use them for a sump.

Dont know where you are with the sump and all, but yes the stock tanks can be used. Jason Fox from Fox corals uses/used a 300 gallon one. Mine are a 50g top and 150 bottom (older picture have mad a few changes)

With that much room you should just get a 55 gallon glass tank to make a great sump.
