I am switching from dosing 80ml of afr to esv 2 part.
125 total gallons, some large sps colonies.
Does anyone have any experience with a 'conversion' factor to get closest to the esv dose equivalent?
Trying to minimize any water parameter shocks.

I could phase it in (reduce afr, increase esv) gradually, but might be over complicated.

Reason for switch:
1. Minimize carbon dosing effect of afr.
2. Eliminate ammonium dosing requirement due to nitrate reduction from 1 above.

Thank you for the input.

ESV recommends starting at 1ml/4 gal. Testing and adjusting accordingly. Consumption rate of your livestock is key. I like using the reef chemistry calculator. Don’t have the link right now but someone I’m sure does.

Unfortunately, none of the calculators i saw listed afr as a product. Did you find one?
AFR is 1.13 times as potent as my diy two part.

Maybe I'm not understanding their question. They are switching products so wouldn't they calculate their dose based on their daily consumption and desired range?

Yes. That’s what I approximated based on the existing dose of AFR, presuming it matched demand.

Conversions are only approximate since the ESV will raise pH and thereby increase demand.

safe to assume you would never have a 1:1 dosing ratio between products (any products)

Just an update after a week of esv 2 part.
Dosing 60ml of each esv part, alk stable at 8.3 to 8.5dkh, calcium stable at 390 to 420ppm. Ph is higher by 0.1.
There seemed to be a spike of alk on the 2nd day after the change, which i attribute to the delayed reaction from the afr that was stopped on day 1.

Don't forget you're not getting the trace elements in AFR so as long as you do weekly water changes your trace get replenished. I dose red sea ABCD in between monthly water changes.

Thanks, yes. I dose a handful twice a week, but also do 1% awcs.
Will send in an icp in a week or 2.
