I have 3 LX7206s over my 6ft SPS dominant tank. 24" tall and 24" front to back. Like you, my canopy height places the lights ~3-4" off the water max. I also have 2 top braces at 24" intervals. I have shading under the braces, especially in the back where corals are high. You mention your tank is 30" deep. What is your front to back, 24"? Where are your braces and how are your lights arranged.
The reason I ask, is that I am thinking of adding 1 or 2 or maybe even 3 ($$$$) more LX7s. If I didn't have the braces or only had one brace, I think 4 LX7s arranged perpendicular to tank length would be great with a 24" depth. I know it seems like overkill, but more LX7s would give me more even lightning, allow me to reduce LED intensity, reduce heat sink temps. and increase LED efficiency and life.
Sorry about the thread hijack KJoFan, but this seemed to be the place to ask.
Thanks in Advance, mtraylor!
My front to back is 27". I have no braces, my aquarium is rimless. My lights are evenly placed ~6inches apart setting vertically with the displays towards the front of the tank evenly in the middle. The 5th light has really changed the color of some of my corals. I also changed the spectrum to more blue, but the change is pretty drastic in some corals. Getting more colors showing up in some of my large colonies is what I wanted. Now mine are Lx6's so I cant get all the power out of them like you can in the lX7. So you have more power to play with. I started with 3 lx6's when they first came out and I was lacking allot of light and went to 4 immediately. Now Im at 5. LOL. I don't think you will be disappointed if you got 1 or 2 more. You will not have shading issues. With 4 I didn't see any shading issues. I see why you say 6 since it would be easier for you to work around bracing. You could also do 2 in the middle and one on each side of bracing and set corals accordingly and see how it works.
