The other day one of my Maxi Mini Carpet Nems went on a walkabout and tried to cross my Lobo... The Lobo surprisingly won that battle and killed the Nem. So it got me to thinking about which corals kill which corals? I know corals such as Acanthastrea echinata and Hydnophora sp. are mass murderers to all who come close. I am also wondering which corals can be kept side by side even touching and have no aggression towards each other?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Its almost impossible to give a real list for this. Too many coras/nems to list them all out and actually create a heirarchy. I just tend to research each coral I put in to determine how much space it needs so that I don't have the issue, and then of course I just worry about the NEM walking.

Sorry to add, but keep in mind its not just when they come in contact, some corals grow over another and shade it out if not trimmed back, others put out feelers that can go a ways. Lots of ways they fight, so sometimes its not a matter of who wins on contact.

Sorry about your Maxi mini skinz... I have noticed that my hammer and torch take out anything that it touches (zoas, chalice, sps, shrooms, gsp etc.)

Sorry to hear, I know that digitatus will kill out Zs-n-Ps as will encrusting montis.

These interactions area always interesting.

Things with longer fleshier (no pun intended) polyps tend to do more damage. I think its because of their "reach" and the fact that they can hit with their polyps before the other coral can touch them. They risk less and do more damage.

My starburst polyps actually grow around my zoas. So you get little zoa heads popping through the starbursts. They are able to live like that completely encrusted. Its sometimes a freebie I throw in with my frag packs. :D

My acan lords and red cynaria surprisingly play pretty well together. I thought there would have been casualties:

^^ wow thats weird.. normally an acan will devourer anything that gets near its mouth...

Yea I thought it would have destroyed the cynaria. I moved the acans to get to a coral down low to the right and forgot to move the dish that holds them back to the right. There is a lobo in the dish to the left of the cynaria. I was thinking of moving the lobo closer to see what happens.....:xd:

I once had my Lobo too close to a Trachy and the the Lobo actually put out these worm like tentacles and started for the Trachy. It was weird looking and I am glad I saw it before they reached the Trachy. The tentacles were about 2" long.
