I got three more Flame Angels at Petco today, for 45.00 each. That is really cheap IMO. Two going to go to my friend and I add another one to my tank to from a harem of 5. I am not sure what happened but one of my Flame Angel disappeared. I wanted to reestablished a harem of 5 instead of 4. These three will go to my QT system to get fatten up. When the time come the male will go to my tank. There he will change back to female after encounter my resident large male. The two females will go to @alton
I am really happy with my tank right now. The red cyano and dino are going away. The fish are healthy and happy (spawning). I will continue to do water change diligently. 25 gals weekly.

I did however, get a 4th angel on Sunday!
I used to love the goldflakes as juveniles, but then I saw an 8” adult and well, quite quickly fell out of love with it. But then, last week possibly the nicest relative of the Goldflake was given into my LFS, and it’s got the colour without the expense. So, as you can imagine, I saw just how golden it was and decided that I would grab the Flagfin Angel (Apolemichthys trimaculatus). So… here she is residing in my 5 foot system (with 3 other angels and 16 or so wrasses).

And how could I not show off my other 2 angels? My two dwarf angels - the Multicolour Dwarf (Centropyge multicolour) and my African Flame Back (Centropyge acanthops), the acanthops is my most aggressive fish in the tank.

I have a quick question. Please don't misinterpret my question. Do you do a medicated quarantine of your fist prior to adding to your display tank? I ask because you mention getting the Flagfin last week, and I see it is already in your DT? I noticed the Flagfin has something on its side, and I wonder if that is from attacks in your DT or something sustained while at the LFS?

So, this is an interesting one for me as I actually sit in the perfect position currently - a much better position than many others sit in!
I actually have my own LFS - half my fish have come from there (or another LFS I heavily trust and have no issues with).

Now, the QT debate I definitely understand - again, having seen both sides.

Some fish I will ensure go through it, others I will not even consider doing heavy, full treatment. This is entirely because having been in the LFS environment, I have QTed a few batches of various fish, and I see ones that thrive through it and others will just up and die half way (I am changing the QT method at the shop to HTTM). However, because of the issues with QT, I have come up with the whole conclusion of observation is best. If they pass a week of observation (being transported to the LFS on its own is enough stress for a fish to show even just the first signs of disease/parasites).

Now, do I think this is enough? Not in a million years, but for now, I don’t own any fish that are truly ‘endangered’ by parasites/disease that are common so I live with them in my tank and have the opportunity currently that if I need to, I can tear the tank down and hold all the fish at the shop to QT.

I guess think of it this way, I have 12 systems (or more…) - 3 are QTs so if one has an issue it can quickly be sorted.

I hope this helps at least a bit with your question 🙂

I don’t do treatment QT either. I am running 4 systems two of these has lighted refugium sumps where I can also keep animals in. I do observations and condition the fishes before release them into my DT.
Corals, anemones, clams is another mater. I do long term observational QT and treatment if needed. They got to be disease free and healthy before going into my DT.
I rarely loose fishes, new or in my DT unless it is due to old age.
Most of my Flasher and Fairy wrasses are gone and I don’t plan to get too many of these anymore. They have such short life for me.

If you conducted a medicated QT for 21 to 30 days, I would believe the item on its side to be some type of injury. If you did not, then it is possible an infection.

I did my best not to trigger the debate. I wanted to get some background to better understand what I was seeing.

Healthy fish in a optimal setting will overcome most (not all) diseases. We don't have to treat every disease a fish got, especially the injury and communicable disease the catch in a stressful transfer 1/2 way around the world. A natural system, that is thriving with fauna and flora (like the system run by myself and @Paul B, and others) will help the fish immune system and heal them. The fauna will eliminate Ich. For example, I can add a fish full of Ich in my tank and it just frizzle out.
My PBT emaciated and full of Ich, and picture of the same one 1 year later with no treatment, added directly to my DT.

No problem at all! I don’t mind the debate - I remain fairly stable with it as I see both sides.
Also I forgot to mention that the marking on her side has entirely healed - I assume it was due to either the powder brown she was with prior to being bagged or my flameback.

When purchasing a fish, I aways ask to see them eat. Fish that eats is usually healthy. If they don't eat, I dont buy it.

Orion is one of those reefers that can magically make anything happen in his tank. I on the other hand place new fish in a separation tank for a month or more before going into a tank with my existing fish. I remember once selling a Large Chevron Tang to Orion. I had this individual fish for many years and very tame up until I tried to catch him. It was cut up , bruised, torn fins and I wasn't sure it was going to make it so I told Orion he didn't have to pay me until we knew the fish was going to make it. I received my money the following week because the fish healed in less than a week. Healthy fish can heal very quickly.

@alton
I think you are putting me on a high pedestal 🥴
A pedestal you absolutely belong on! Your fish are some of the healthiest I’ve seen for a long time.

Looks mostly yellow but the Red Sea Regals tend to have more orange on the edges. IMO Misbar>Yellow Belly any day. If you are happy with it then that's all that matters.

Here is a recent Regal I had (sold him and got a smaller one to grow up with the rest of my Angels)
