looks good, im in process of doing the same thing, and have ordered the same baffle kit, which overflow kit did you go with, 24"?

Do you plan on any kind of restriction for the siphon to slow down the 1500gph overflow?

Also, i bet that table saw is more accurate than anything made in the last 10 years haha.

I got the overflow custom made at 20" for the end of my 120 (peninsula style). However, that project is on hold until we get the entire house re-tiled. Probably not until next year. So I decided to try out the overflow on this 40 breeder for the time being. The skimmer choice is also for the 120, it is on the small side for the 120 and definitely on the large side for the 40.

Do you plan on any kind of restriction for the siphon to slow down the 1500gph overflow?

1500 is really the max I believe you would want to run. I just a gate valve on the main return line and I have a Jabeo 800GPH adjustable output pump.

Also, i bet that table saw is more accurate than anything made in the last 10 years haha.

LOL. uh no. Not only is it incredibly dangerous, but totally inaccurate as well.

wow these filter socks work well on the sand dust. almost completely clear this morning:

and I have to say, I love this "bucket head" wet dry! whoever thought of this is my hero. Having a dedicated wet-dry vac to suck out all the sump water is so awesome. at $20 it is a must-have IMO

So I went to best buy and got a cheap windows laptop on sale so I can program the Radion. too bad there isn't an app for chromebook

Man I am getting overwhelmed. trying to figure out apex and ecotech. too much tech! so many options! I guess it doesn't matter what light cycle option I choose. I should probably just leave it off until I am sure the tank is cycled.

Looking good, what kind of flow are you looking to put in there?

Funny you ask: The one "gadget" I felt like buying was a 1" flow sensor for the Apex since I was getting a ATK anyhow. So with my cheapie Apex lite, I am having a hard time setting up the FMM. I don't see any Task in the drop down menu for adding a flow sensor. I finally found a box floating around in the available tiles that is listed as FLX3_3 and it says the value is 1479. I assume that must be Liters? I have a Jabeo 800 GPH return pump at 4 feet and I was expecting about 400 GPH so yea, I guess that's Liters. I'm also having difficulty getting the ATK to work properly. But it was late night tying to mess with it, I think I may have had the sensors stacked wrong. but it should still turn on if you pull the whole thing out of the water, right?
sigh. o_O

I guess I am realizing the limitations of buying an older / used Apex lite? :(

Don't think Mt. Shrimp is rotting yet or else I already have some bacteria from weeks of pre-circulating the rock. Red sea test indicated maybe 0.2 Not sure if I should pull him out tonight or leave him in the sock another day.

That looks great, what does the return section look like, Im curious if they will cause a lot of bubbles.
Jim

I was just re-reading the thread and to follow up, I have few to no micro bubbles in the tank. I'm not using any foam in the bubble trap and the Soamtic skimmer is working pretty good at little more than 1/2 choke on the flow with few to zero bubbles leaving the skimmer. I'm pretty happy with the way things are going with everything less the noise from the skimmer is disappointing. Especially since it was advertised at BRS as "super quiet"

Ugh. the waiting. the waiting. ;Singing So hard to stare at an empty tank. Had a very small ammonia spike on wed I think. but overall very low readings all week. Some algae starting to bloom on the one live rock piece I got from LFS. I sure would love to get a small chunk of quality live rock from an established tank but I have not found any donors.

Here is my warm and salty box of rocks: (I need lessons on taking better cell phone pics)

Curious as to why you chose to have your drain pipes go into a section before your filter socks. I’ve seen this before but have also seen them go right into the socks. Is there a reason behind doing it either way?

I just followed the layout recommended by Exotic Marine but I can tell you it makes removing and installing the socks super easy. This sump is also incredibly quiet and that may be part of it. The baffle kit comes with round drilled plates that go in the sock, and also ones to use if you choose not to use the socks. That disperses and slows the water and you would not believe how quiet it is. Unfortunately, the sump is so quiet it really shows off how much noise the Soamtic skimmer makes. :(

Still no fish, but today's new rock is getting the tank going in the right direction. It came full of baby bristle stars that started climbing out after I put it in my tank. I found one aiptasia after I got home, but I would have bought the rock anyhow if I had noticed it at the sellers location. I need a better camera for sure, this rock has so much going but unable to see it in this crappy phone pic

I know, I know... WAY WAY too early for BTA, but I felt like I was saving them from LFS and couldn't pass up the deal on a giant tonga branch with two BTA, nice colony of clove polyps, and some other stuff on it, only $70

changed the light program for more full light and longer. 85% some better pics:
